Some Figs From This Morning

We have a storm system coming through here this weekend.  Temps are going to drop to the 60's for several days.  The figs trees are all in the process of going dormant already.  These are probably some of the last figs of the year.  Looking forward to 2014.

I'll pick the last of my SC and give to Chilly so she can make fig preserves. Got quite a few left on my tree. Wish I had some fresh to eat like you Joe!

Thanks guys. The trees here will still ripen figs for a few more weeks, but they are no longer sweet enough to be worth eating. The ones from this morning weren't that good. Looks like my season is about over now.

Nice Picture, Thanks for Posting.....are temps are dropping into the 60's also.  I asked a fellow collector which is the best fruit for my area (Central California) he said with all that summer heat, they should all do well in growing and taste.......And I have been thinking about moving...duh...????

Armando,

I've been to Chico before. The weather there is probably similar to yours. I saw that figs did real well there too. Fig trees seem to do well in places with long hot growing seasons. I think in hot climates like where we live the trees produce figs that are very sweet and have strong flavor. The figs I'm getting here in Arizona are sweeter and more flavorful than the ones I used to get in Massachusetts. But I found that compared to the figs my trees produced in Massachusetts the figs here in Arizona are smaller and less juicy. But overall I like the sweetness and flavor more. And the season is longer here so the trees produce so many figs over the long season. Hot climates bring out the fig tree's full potential.

Joe Some nice figs you have there! We did survive the last 2 days of rain didn't we?

Yikes. Freezing temps next week. Some of your cuttings are already rooted and potted up. I put them in my mini greenhouse.

Looks like the weather is changing on us.  I'm glad that the cuttings I gave you are doing well.  The DK you gave me is in the ground and looking good.  The other plants are in containers and still looking healthy.
