Nice work. I'm jealous that it's summer for you now. Give your new figs at least 3 years to develop full flavor before throwing any away. Soil PH, fertilizer, and water are all things to check as to reasons a fig does not perform to your expectations. Good luck!

thanks for the post!

Mocatta.

It's nice to see the success that other folks are having in different parts of the world. What are your winters like in the Sydney area?

dang.. i need to go and get some dried figs. can't wait till the season starts. i want fresh figs..

Very mild and dry the main rains r in summer and temps around seventeen degrees celsius.

Pete dried figs can sure pass time nicely :)

Black mission is quite nice

My best tasting  one so far is Ivans Amer, multicoloured large rain resistant dark red inside.  Reminds me of the Hivervencas from photos (leaves and figs).  Closely followed by a fig that I believe its Vasilika sika (from an old timer).

Others that are good so far:  San Giovanni, Picton fig (small dark and red inside), Piconi and too many to mention..lol

Yog

Mocatta, don't rush to conclusions about the ones you didn't like as much. Most fig trees need maturing in order to produce ultimate taste. Don't be harsh on them. Your trees are still babies ;)
Those pictures look awesome...I'm drawling, LOL

What a haul! When did these varieties start fruiting? I'm afraid I don't know which name belongs to each picture. Is it (left to right) Black Genoa profile, Deanna profile (what a beautiful yellow!), Deanna cross section, Lemon Lennie cross section, Lemon Lennie profile, Preston Prolific cross section, Celeste profile, Celeste cross section, R14 cross section, Excel profile, Excel cross section, Green Ischia profile, Black Mission profile, Black mission cross section?

Lucky you!

From left to right i do have more varieties too taste but so far the ones that stood out were Exel the best honey fig, green Ischia, and black mission which was like jam i also have a lot off unknows i should post,i see ur in oz hows ur season going.

Yogfig i have three Kytherian fig trees ive been trying too id for two years i thought it was a adams fig, ill post when there ripe to see if they match ur trees.

THe one i Have is from a Kytherian old timer.

He had it here for over 60 years!

Today i picked my first Kytherian Fig off the year i did have a few last year but it rain and the figs split,as u know Sydney has had a dry summer and this is what u get a super sweet fig with the jam taste it blew my mind how nice it was thats a good fig.

was the fig fully ripe?

It was like jam i didnt want too leave it longer cause it would have gone sour, the leaf shape is the same and the outer color.

Nice looking fig. Thanks for sharing, those of us who are locked up in winters grip really appreciate it!
