Aloha, Grant.  I like the way you've used a fruit crate/basket (pic 2) as a fig protector.  Looks like you're gonna be a happy camper come late Summer.

My Niagara Black shows no  signs of any figs, nor is my Noire de Corombe.
my panachee might give me a few if the summer is long enough.

My niagara black started putting out figs a couple weeks ago and they are ballooning already, even the one that died back to a several inches above ground is putting them on, I am surprised at how fast they go from rice sized embryos to fingernail size.

Here are my figs so far this year. I just pinched them last week so maybe more to come.
The big dark fig in the pictures is the Petite Negri you gave me. I had figs last year from this one too.
The pictures are Atreano, Petite Negri, and Desert King.

  

My Desert King isn't cooperating.... for the 2nd year now no brebas but it tries to grow main crop figs.

Tyler, I only kept my desert king for 2 years, it kept growing too vigorously and would break in storms so it got some rot in the branches despite pruning, plus I didn't really think the brebas were worth keeping for the taste, I would rather than 2 colars.  None the less it seemed like it need to be headed back as the new growth like to go vertical, perhaps either tying the branches down (gently) to force more new growth of the buds or pinching or pruning might help you get some good growth to produce brebas as well as making sure the branches don't get exposed to too much cold before winter and during winter might help?  I found it like to put out a ton of main crop figs as well but my assessments may not be fair since I only kept it for 2 years.

if you prune, you won't get brebas from those branches . The same goes for pinching. The tree won't have the time to store new resources for generating brebas.
Do that test : don't prune and don't pinch for the next two years. Just cut some branches if they are misplaced but don't touch all the branches. Leave most of them to their own choices of growth. Tie them down or up but don't cut .
You'll get brebas then .
The first years the stems will store energy for the next stems to store energy to make brebas the next year . So 2 years of no pruning and no pinching are needed.
Just my 2 cents as always .

How do I know: Last year I pinched most of the stems on my bigger ufti (unknown from the Italian gardener) . Most of the maincrop did ripen last year. BUT None of those pinched stems showed a breba this year, although they made some two centimeters sub-stems.
Those stems started showing this year's maincrop two weeks ago .
The jury is still out to judge - if this year, I will pinch that tree again or not ... For now I'm on the not pinching side; but the results of this year's maincrop will make the decision !
So let's see what I'll get !
