Willis, your are correct on the cost factor. The big bag I get is a little pricey but it works out later with the larger particles.
Shana, I am not the long time professional on rooting figs. I have rooted may other plants. If the soil is damp when you place the cutting in, that
is what you want, not wet. Compacted is not good. They also have to have air circulation and the perlite, especially large pieces help with that. If you
tent the container (i.e. plastic baggy or another cup inverted with holes in it) they will have the moisture and air circulation they need. The holes will
help insure not too much humidity.
