I root my cuttings in buckets with perlite with very little water in it. It feels almost dry to the touch. I cover them with plastic bag and open the bag to get fresh air every day. And here is a bucket of cuttings I forgot about.
How long did you forget?

Looks like you've got a method that works! At least you didn't forget about them for too long. They should take off nicely for you.
The cuttings were left for 10 days. the rooting took something like 25 days.
