something eating my fig tree leaves!!!

Hi Everyone.

I'm new on this Board so still getting into the drift of things :-)

I've planted  about 25 fig trees already from my own cuttings (learning on figs 4 fun thx!!) I've notice over the weekend something has been nibbling on some of the leaves (and by nibbling I mean some of the leaves completely gone by now) My fionce mentioned he saw a "worm alike thingy" on one of the leaves last week......

Can anybody help me? I've been trying to keep my trees organic by not using chemicals etc. So if there is maybe anything natural I can spray on otherwise I'll obviously have to use chemicals.... any help please!?

(the trees are about knee hight now and planted in very rich soil. We based on the south coast of South-Africa. Maybe this helps.)

Thanks so much!

Bon-Neem is from a natural derivative (neem oil) and will deter or kill many pests.

Nothing beats sitting down with your plants and hand-picking off those buggers and killing them, though.

I agree neem most big box stores carry it here I use it in veggie garden and had to use on one fig which had scale bugs Just mix to directions as not to suffocate the foliage You might have to follow up with 7-10 day applications till you solve problem

Check the plants at about 10 p.m. with a flashlight and you'll most likely find out what the culprit is,

the biggest insect problem that i've had with figs is grasshoppers.  for some reason, they loved my hardy chicago.  it was stripped clean.  every time it put out a leaf, it got immediately devoured.  it's one of the few figs i've lost.

that poor plant could never get up a head of steam.

My goodness, that sounds like a problem, I hope you follow this advice and get this under control. I wish you the best of luck. If you would part with a glass of beer, put that out and maybe you will catch a snail, Slug?  I did this method often when they were eating the foliage. Ciao
