Somethings are simply not meant to be!!!

It was not particularly hard to accept that I would never be president... regardless of what we were taught in elementary school.  It was somewhat more disappointing when I realized that a night with Ann Margret was not going to happen.....Yet there was still a lot of optimism later in life and I accepted some things while holding out on a lot of goals yet to be obtained.  fast forward to current day and there a couple of things that I have recently come to grips with....I will never be able to propagate a Panache cutting......Nor a Danny's Delite......Nor a RDB.  Simply not in the cards!  BT yes, Celeste yes, LSU everything yes, Magnolia yes, Red Italian  yes, Schar yes, EBT yes, Verte yes, Flanders yes, the list goes on, and on but a Panache, a Danny's Delite..Nooooooo!,Nada, Nope, Nyet!!!  Am I disappointed?  Will I survive?

Had I rather have a Panache over Ann Margret, Hell No!  Doesn't really matter, I am doomed to have neither!, SO BE IT!!!

Oh Danny!
Were you trying all three this year?
I payed some good money for Ronde, got two cuttings. The first attempt WAS looking good.
I have one last chance if this one continues to spiral.
Hope there are some spares in your fridge, sending you a good vibe...

Just looked up Ann Margret on Wiki.
Hubba hubba!

I've given up on an Margaret as well, but I'm still holding our on being President. I have some really good ideas to build my platform on, but I am not going to type them all out on my phone.

I hope my success rate is not a factor in my achieving political stardom.

I feel ya kathleens black, florea and loung d aout are my kriptanite. I so want em but every year no go. My rdb has done rather well. Hit me up in summer I plan to do some airlayers.

Why is it some varieties are so hard to propigate from cuttings? How did all these hard to root varieties get spread around like they are if thats the case? Is every RDB an air layer? Maybe we just arent holding our mouth right when we put them in cups:/

I rooted 6 RdB's last year.  All 6 grew to adolescence.  I gave away 5 of them.  So those are probably dead now.  I air-layered the top off my last one and it's starting to wake up now, though the original is still sleeping.  I've rooted 3 more RdB's a few weeks ago and they are now in humidity bin and starting to put out leaves.  They seem to take at least 3 weeks minimum to root.

Danny, I'll bring you an RdB this summer, if you want.

I had a tough time air layering a Panache last year.

It is one tough to root fig.

i got good number of Panache cuttings from jon last yr. there were so many, i gave away most of 'em and kept 4 cuttings. only one made it. it wasn't too hard to root, but was very hard to keep 'em alive.

All my Panache last year died the newbie death.  I got 2 this year from Harvey.  I started one a few days ago.  This will be the test to see if I graduate from Newbie Status.

Danny
I will trade you one of each tree for Ann Margaret:-):-):-):-)
Bye Bye Birdie!!!!!

blueboy,

i don't think there are any hard to root fig cuttings. what makes the difference is how fresh the cutting is and if stored, how well it was kept.

as long as the cuttings are fresh, they will root. keeping them alive is another story.

Pete,

We're back to square one.

rafed, yeah... my problems are not rooting, but keeping them alive.

All my cuttings rooted, I generally drown the juveniles or the Gnats get them, except for the RDB, never had one to root.  All the RDB cuttings I have tried were smallish and some were green, not a good combo for me.

It has been a very expensive journey as a newbie, and w/o very much success.  BTW Rafed I have some wuhans still hanging in there.  But now, my big concern is:  When should the cutting be potted up from a cup to a Qt. or gallon?

yeah.. green cuttings are even harder to keep 'em alive.

I usually up pot when they start looking top heavy.  If they leaves are growing so well and not wilting, it must have roots to support them.

I also bought 2 Panache cuttings from Harvey. The cuttings looked soo awesome & fresh. They have been in the moss bin forever. Probably 5 weeks. One has nothing & one has some root initials. I wonder if I should go ahead and cup it since its been in there sooo long......

Jenn.  If it doesn't have leaves and not molding, I'd keep it in the moss.

I have started all new series of propagation of my local figs from around our neighborhood, I just cut a long stick, known as whip, about 2-2.5 feet long right at the base of it and after dipping both ends in Paraffin just plant them in 1 gallon pots and set it aside. Didn't have a loss yet, I have 5 pots so far and 2  branches are just left outside from today's hunt. I'll post a pic tomorrow, I think at least one of 'em is giving fig already.

Thanks James. I'm trying real hard not to be anxious but I'm always scared the root initials will mold. Patience, patience, patience. I'm trying :)

I have been grafting my cuttings, been having better luck than trying to root them. Sometimes you do everything right and months later the cutting dies, to much water, dries out, gnats...???    Danny: will see if I can start an air-layer for you or root cuttings for you. If I come across a small panache, will see if a local nursery can send it to you.....Just remind me in a few weeks.

Jenn, if you don't want molds or fungus treat your cuttings with very strong Cinnamon tea, let them sit there in tea for about 30 minutes then take them out and air dry them, dip both ends in Paraffin then they'll be ready for rooting.

Aaron, do you let the ends of the cuttings dry out before you dip them in Paraffin? If a cutting is cut fresh and wet will the paraffin still allow it to dry and callous?
