i think the villain is pronounced b-i-r-d.

ok, i guess next year i'll be using tanglefoot and bird net. for awhile i thought some mammal took a big bite out of my fig. and it was perfectly ripe.

Yep, looks like a bird has been pecking at it. The Cardinals are the main culprit in my area, but there has been a female Scarlet Tanager that has had the audacity to peck at a fig and chirp happily while looking at me about 10 feet away for a couple of weeks.A few days ago, I saw a Hummingbird peck a fig for the first time.Cute but aggravating.

Pete,

the little buggers have a gift for finding the best ones. I'm losing my tolerance with the dang mockingbirds around here.lol

Sorry about your fig. :(

Tanglefoot is more for preventing insects from crawling up from the ground and won't affect bird damage.

Avian flew.

Too slow-acting, Jon. Thinking more drastic ;-)

That is a classic bird attack. Had a couple like that yesterday. Today I had a classic squirrel attack with half a fig on the ground, a VDB. Time to set up traps.

Pete,
I bought a whole bunch of little (14 inch) rubber snakes and I tie them to different places so when the wind blows it looks like they are moving. This seems to help a lot - at least for me. Fortunately the local birds don't know cobras don't live in Virginia.
Wow to loose such yummy bounty! Off with their heads!

just bought me a new knife.. might have to try it out...

on the bright side...I think the bird LOVED it! lol

Ruben,

A 45/70 would be more drastic. It will make a statement!

Similar to Hitchcock's "BIRDS" , the Mockingbirds and raiding Bluejays are my culprits

Time to take up falconry.

crows.. my wife saw them dive bombing the figs. now they are going after unripen figs.

falconry sounds interesting.. too much hobbies to pick that up right now. i think i need to go get some net. still have ton of figs on the trees from second flush.
