Sometimes Size Matters

Hi,
I was watering my Yellow Long neck the other day wondering if it was going to put out any fruit this year and I started a list of large figs. It seemed that all the really large figs are yellow. Giant Amber, Giant German Black being the exception. And I'm told Malta Black can get very large sometimes. Do you know of a 100 gram (give or take) dark/black fig? Any idea why the big ones are mainly yellow?

Thanks

There  are also several black figs that I know are huge;
Yugoslavian Black Huge, Melanzana Calabrese, Bifara, Cyprus Black, Blue Giant and Black Jack is quite large.

There have been photos of these posted before on f4f.

I have heard of Blue Giant but forgot about it. The rest are new to me.

My biggest fig is a jet black fig. My Napolitana Negra are up to 125 grams. They have a red interior and berry flavor.
They are usually dense and syrupy. Unlike many large figs that are very watery tasting.

Impressive!
Where did you get it?

Wow, that's a real monster!

Beautiful fig. Added to my cuttings list.

Is it very productive?

Here is what they look like now. They set a good number of figs on each branch.

@Pino.... Yugoslavian Black Huge? You have my interest piqued.... Do you have pictures or more information related to this fig? When I was younger, I remember seeing a fig in a yard adjoining my cousin's yard that was black and huge... That is all I remember and in spite of repeated questioning of my cousin and other relatives, no one seems to know what I am talking about.... I had wrote my memories off as being a kids fantasy but now you have revived my thinking that such a huge fig really existed...

My Black Jack's first fig this year is 157 grams...  and the taste doesn't get diluted as it grows to this size.

I was hoping for some more dialogue and pictures. This has been great! To all who answered- many thanks!

I'll see if I join the 100 gram club this year. Fingers crossed.

From what I remember they tasted sweet with a figgy taste.  The tree is in ground so they ripen early october for me.
There are a couple of large brebas on the plant should be ready soon so will post a photo and take taste notes.
