Just saying hi.. I'm glad I found this forum so I can learn from you veterans.

I'm thinking about growing some Fig Trees outside and Growing some in pots so I can bring them in during the winter.

I always thought I was really limited to only the Hardy Chicago since I live in zone 6a but after some reading on the net and on this forum I see a nice selection to choose from for my zoe. Rather then buy online I would prefer to buy cuttings from you guys. Since its going back into the hobby instead of corporate companies.

This is my 4th year making wine and its a great hobby.. I think I'll enjoy Growing figs just as much..

Welcome to the forum, sending PM.

Welcome.

You'll soon find you'll "need" more than a couple varitites. Maybe when you have 80-100 plants and rooting cuttings you'll realize you have "a problem" like most of the rest of us here.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome. I also enjoy the fine art of wine and beer making. Fig wine is this falls project.

Hey Sal, welcome.

Welcome to the forum

Welcome!  Fig wine would be great and you can bring some (sell some under the table) to all the fig gatherings near you.  There will be posts about them in the summer and fall.  There are several fig varieties named after you.  Sal's EL, Sal's Gene, Sal-ce, Sal's, Sal's Corleone and probably more that aren't coming to mind right now.

Plus you're probably less than 2 hrs from http://www.treesofjoy.com and Bill's Figs - both sources of great trees.

Best of luck with your plants.

Rcanter. Do they have fig gathering in the Louisiana area? Thanks richie

Welcome to the forum Sal, you will find a lot of information by using the search or just by asking other members for help. We have some great members with an abundance of fig knowledge.

With a name like Sal, it should be us looking to you for info. You have more figs named after you than anyone else in the world I think. All kidding aside, welcome.

Welcome to the forum Sal, you made it to a great place, happy figging. =)

Regards,

Richie, There's one at one of the LSU locations and there was another one hosted by one of our members somewhere in the SE but I can't remember who or where (sorry to the person who spearheaded it).  The one hosted by our member became a big, city-wide deal.  When one is coming up it will be posted on the forum.  You could host your own.  There are plenty of fig people in LA and surrounding areas.

Hello!

Sal,
Welcome to THE forum, where it all happens :)

Welcome Sal and happy New Year!

Welcome to the forum Sal, and Happy New Years.

Sometime around February 1, Jon (pitangadiego) who owns this forum has a big sale of cuttings with hundreds of varieties ordered.  That's something to look forward to but there are many members who sell or share cuttings as well.

Good luck with all of your fig endeavors.

Welcome Sal, I'm into winemaking as well.   I use fruit that I grow here, like blueberry, elderberry, cranberry, apples, plums and pears.   You will find plenty of generosity on this forum, and folks offering up all kinds of fig varieties for very reasonable(or free!) prices- some of which are local 'unknown' discoveries that might be better than what you can find commercially available.  Good luck, and have fun with it!

Welcome:)

Welcome, Sal!

Welcome, Sal!

Benvenuto Salvatore! I see your hobby is wine making, mine is wine drinking. Buona fortuna
