Thanks for the pics Chris. How was the taste? how did it look like inside?

 Pete

I could have left it on the tree for another day or two but it was beginning to split and I did not want to lose it to the ants or birds. The taste was nothing stpecial, it was spongy and lac king moisture. not surprised the tree is only a year and a half old and in a pot. Looking forward to the main crop, it is a vigourous grower and almost 5 feet tall.

Very nice! No pics of the interior?

why would they name it red when it's green fig?

Not sure maybe main crop will be a different color. First fruits off this tree for me. I have 14 different fig varieties and this was the largest Brebas from any of my trees.

Did Your fig get enough sun?

Here's a pic taken this morning of another breba from same tree with more red coloring. Not sure why the first one was completely green.

Is there a story with this fig variety? Origin, name, country, Serial#?

I traded with a member from new jersey. I think he said it originated from Italy and he named it Sorbello because that's the name of the family in nj who's yard it came from.

Dom pm me

Thanks

Yes the Sorbello red came from Italy many years ago to the family Farm in South Jersey many years ago. The fruit and leaves have been examined by many an expert on the forum. It is most likely a sport of the same fig we call Sals Corleone.  The tree is pruned and wrapped in a tarp every winter not much more protection than that. The Breba crop is not that favorable mostly watered down lacking flavor. however the main crop is highly Desired there have been many that line up to get the few from the main tree on the farm. Mrs Sorbello has tried to sell them at her produce stand but they never hit the shelf..
