I know UC Davis is a source though I could never figure out the price as I got bored reading through all the pages.  Have also read that cuttings from there are not worth the time--true or false?  I see also that Encanto Farms does cuttings--is June too late to order them from there?

Am wondering where most of you all get your cuttings?  I'm so new to this that I am not part of any local garden club that might do swaps.

we find alot of local trees and just ask the owner for cuttings you would be surprised how friendly people are.. Offer to prune the tree for free and you collect the cuttings...
I have almost a dozen trees locally and I know they will survive in my climate remember survival of a cultivar is most important.. Alot of figs that will grow in texas and fla will not grow here in north east.. What area and zone are you located in????

I ordered mine, mostly from Jon at Encanto Farms (sold through e-bay) and from Hermansur (also through e-bay).  All of these cuttings were outstanding quality, top varieties, and they are doing great.  These guys are experts and know what they are doing.  They will send you the right varieties at the right time of year.

I also got a few others here and there.  Local varieties were pretty limited though, so I highly recommend the above as outstanding sources.  They are real experts and they will send you exactly what you think you are getting.  Otherwise, the fig you may be getting is whatever Grandma thought it was.  It still may be a good fig, but for a select variety go to a reliable source.

You all are the best!  I've been eyeing cuttings from Hermansur.  Should I check for Jon from Encanto on Ebay or send him an email now.  I like the idea of supporting members.
I live in Yorktown, VA, which is Zone 8.  Not sure if I am 8A or B.

I just got some cuttings from hermansur almost 100% rooting success his stuff is the best and a local cultivar that will ;produce in your area.... I highly recommend hermansur for cuttings of his marselious vs black...

Tom and Zone 7nj--what method did you use to root your cuttings?

Ireiley I use the zip lock bag and wrap my cuttings in damp newspaper.. When they start to shoot roots I put them in 80% perlite and 20% potting mix in 20 oz styrofoam coffee cups and place sandwich bag overtop for humidity.. Real light media the potting mix just dirties up the perlite.  I will post a picture tomorrow..

I am new here but I love all things Fig! I have recently started collecting fig trees, taking cuttings or buying a young tree. I found a Panache at my local Lowes and had to have it! I also found a Violette de Bordeaux fig tree at a nursery, once again, had to have! Both trees cost $40+. Trees are expensive and I like to have a variety of trees, so as I walk my dog I keep my eyes out for fig trees. I have found almost 10 trees within a mile walk from my house. When the summer rolls around and the figs are ripening I sample each tree. I take note of how many figs the tree produces, how early or late the figs ripen, and of course flavor. Then I take cuttings from the trees I like! That is the source of most of my cuttings, I have taken a few cuttings from trees of people I know.
