Southeastern Fig Growers Gathering

Good day, I am interested in seeing if there is an interest from any forum friends from the South in getting together for a face to face fig meeting.  I can accomodate around 20 people at my home.  I have a huge 2 level deck and pool with a roof.  I would like to hold it at my home.  If we get more than 20 people, then I will reserve a pavillion at one of our Nature preserve parks close to my home.  Here are a few questions:

1.  Can you attend this year or 2013? if so, what month is best?
2.  When is the best time for you?  Late Spring, Summer, or Fall?
3.  What times work best for you?  9 to 12 or 1 to 4?
4.  This will be a pot luck--can you bring a cover dish?  I will provide the meat.
5.   Trading is optional.  Can you bring a few trees or cutting to trade?
6.  What topics are you interested in discussing?

You don't have to respond here, feel free to send me a PM.
thanks,

snagplus,

I also suggest that you include the 'raffle' option.

It is pure fun for everybody!

It allows attendees lucky enough with 'extras' to share.

It should not deter newbies from attending; actually it

should be of some sort of an incentive for them to attend.

Of course, the most important thing is to get together, see

the most new faces and overall have some good fig fun together...

Thanks George! I forgot about having a raffle. That is a good idea. I will add it to the list.

I forgot to add, I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. We will have the event at my residence.

thanks,

Hello Dennis, If you have it in the fall you wouldn't have to worry about the squirrels or birds eating your figs..But I'll bet your company will enjoy ;) Now what month is your major harvest time? I have a brother that lives in SC, maybe its time i make a visit. Don't count me in yet, but possible. It's all about the timing.

Dennis I'll be in Charlotte in October... I'll try to visit you.

Dennis,

I'm interested. Fall would be the best time. But it just happens fall is also busiest time. If the date.is right, I can bring few trees in 1 gal. Nothing special.

Pete

Hmmmm, looks like we might be meeting in October! I know my late crop of figs will be ready, Black Maderia, LSU Black, Green Greek, Brown Greek and others.

Bass, if you will be here in October, I can make arrangements to hold the event during your visit. That way some of the forum friends will get the opportunity to meat you.

Pete, Luke, I hope you guys can make it. I am hoping we have at least 10 people. The first one is always the toughest but we will have some fun. I'm looking forward to this becoming an annual event.

Bass, send me a PM on if you'll be able to come down in October.  I plan on putting this together some time in September.

thanks,

Dennis, Please don't make on Sept 15. On that date it appears the statin island will take place. If you do, I'll have to flip a coin to see where I'll be heading.

October sounds good!  And, a five hour drive is easy.
Yes, will bring 2 or 3 gallon figs.
   1:00 to 4:00 pm
In ground figs, a great topic!

I'm very interested but am really time poor this fall. I'd come in 2013, however, and would try for this year but can not promise anything at this time.
But great idea. I'm maybe 10 hours away and have a new tent and sleeping bag, but I do need to say that I do travel with an extremely well trained dog and my policy is if the dog's not welcome I don't go. BTW he's welcome everywhere here - Dr.'s, grocery, home depot, etc.
So - let me know - I'd love to come.

October is  probably, good for me.  A 6 hr drive and $110 in fuel, round
trip is doable.  I could bring a few trees.  My wife is taking treatment
for a malignant melanoma in her left eye beginning Sept 12. so keep
her in your thoughts and prayers, but for now, pencil me in.
