Spanish Moss

Can you use spanish moss off oak trees to root cuttings?

Yes you can ! Its my preference. I have pics. I use a clear bakery container that crossants come in at Walmart. wet very well. Ring it out like a rag. Put thick layer in. Then cuttings then top layer. It stays wet looking but inside were cuttings are stays almost dry. Strange how it does i will put pics up. Richie from louisiana

wouldnt you know.   I spent three hundred dollars last year to have someone spray the giant "tara style" oak on the left hand side of my house because it was just covered with moss and looked like a grade b horror movie.   Saving grace is I have another one on the right hand side and can use that moss.   Thanks so much for the tips everyone.   Joyce  (florida)

5 days and roots starts. And i just took cuttings out. This is second round of cuttings without changing it out. No mold at all. Look at cuttings they look dry.

That looks dark for spanish moss. Did you boil it or soak it for long?

I usually come down with chiggers right after handling spanish moss. Bringing it in by the armload is not advised.

Of course, this had to come up two days after my wife started home from Florida. Maybe next year.

Must be better with the live moss... I tried it a few years ago with the dried floral spanish moss and they all got moldy.

Yes the moss is dried then wet and wrung out then papper towls are used to finish drying. The moss gets dark when wet. You must wash all your cuttings, with bleach water. Only takes a,few spores to mold your xuttings. Moss that is bought dry has no mold spores. If using fresh moss. Rinse it in bleach water. Moldy cuttings hapoen in all media. If you rid the cuttings / media. No mold
