Sphagnum Moss and Cuttings

A friend sent me cuttings, nice long ones, and I cut some of them into two parts.
Some were apparently old wood, the rest new growth.

I started these in long fiber Sphagnum moss on top of a hot water heater in a dark closet.  The roots were fast and fat.  I planted them into thirty two ounce clear cups, but instead of the rooting mix I used potting mix.  They went into the cups about three weeks ago.  I put them in a covered box outside and left for about ten days.

Yesterday I returned and had a look at them.  The new wood has all started.  Roots are showing all over the clear cups so that I know the potting mix must be full of them.

The old, hard, wood has not started a leaf, but I see little green bumps showing in spots on the wood.  The cups have roots showing everywhere, one or two trying to climb out of the top.  None of the cups have a dead twig.

This prompted me to go examine some REP cuttings I buried in sand out by the barn.  Doggone!!!  Two that were not completely buried have leaves.  I must dig up the rest and see if they need to be cupped.
