I encountered this forum in a search for a new bale of long fiber New Zealand Sphagnum Moss. I'd last paid about $64 for a six cubic foot bale, but the seller has sold his nursery and retired. Closest I've found in the last quarter-hour of searching was about $106 plus freight for a smaller bale. Perhaps there is a better source. I use these in propagation of some orchid species native to the Americas, and to grow some species of Nepenthes and other carniverous plants.
On figs; I grow a couple of varieties of green figs at home, but have to share with raccoons, which climb the trunks and get first pickings. I have another tree that appears to be sterile that I'm contemplating grafting (late spring softwood graft). It is well-established. Given the rapid growth rate of figs, would I be better-off just buying a nice white fig for our cool area or a black fig for our cool area...key terms are cool, usually, and clay soils?
Thanks for any advise on these two subjects.
