What fig variety do you have?

Tim,

I see you take pride in what you do.
Looking at the nice manicured lawn, veggie garden and the fig trees are flawless.

Great work Tim!

Very nice looking garden there, Tim. Looks like it is off to a great start.  I want to do a similar thing that you did with your rows in my own vegetable garden this year.  I am referring to using leaves and whatever else you got under there between the rows for weed suppression.  Do you use anything under the leaves?  I just dread dealing with weeds between rows...

David

Rafed, thanks! I'm just having a blast.

David, I always grow ton's of tomatoes in those rows, but I decided to scale back this year and trial some figs. All I did was till the ground well , rowed it up & planted the figs. Those leaves and grass clippings are probably 12" thick. I'm going to add more as I pick up more bags. I didn't want to mulch around the plants(tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumber, squash, and figs) until it gets warmer and the soil warms up more. I can keep the exposed soil weeded for now with a stirrup hoe. I also am going to add an irrigation system made with 3/4" PVC pipe so I can keep it watered easily.

JCA here is what I have so far(LOL!)

I would like to publicly thank all who have helped me start this collection---you know who you are and to all the members here that have taught me how to grow figs not to mention some great friendships(that's the best part to me---figs are just an added bonus). I've still got lots to learn.

What am I going to do with all of these figs? Haven't planned that far ahead---Like I said, just having fun.

Tim, I would have to say "Fantastic". Very beautiful trees. Your figs and tomato plants are way ahead of what I have. I just chanced planting my tomatoes and peppers in the garden Saturday. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
 J.A.

Hi JA, Thank you for the kind words. Hope all is well with you and the family. I'm glad you got to get yours started. When it warmed up here two weeks early this year, I took a chance and set them(tomatoes) out. I did have to cover them up a couple times for light frosts, but they came through just fine. Next year I'll probably get caught with a freeze(my luck).

Tim, I love your fig yard. Big yard, big heart, wish you the best fig year, Sergio.

Good luck with your fig orchard.  You have lots of space for huge planting and wish I had that much space.  Still I have LSU Purple and Celeste and other plants.   The only fig I have tasted all my life to this point is Celeste and hope my LSU Purple turns out OK.  It is so nice to have many different fig varieties so you can sample the different fig flavors!

Tim ,
Great looking pictures of your place.
With that fig list you are going to need more room for Tim's Fig Farm.
When will you be opening up for U-Pick ?
Thanks for the pics.
Kerry
Zone 5 NH where it is still in the teens and 20's at night

Thanks Sergio, Jason, CJA & Kerry. The big open lot you see in the background, belongs to one of my neighbors. I could have bought it 20 years ago, but didn't need it then(hindsight). The owner may sell it to me when he moves next year. I don't need it, but I want it---you fignuts understand. I'd rather have it close than another property away, which I have considered also. I don't know about the pick your own---this is a residential only neighborhood----maybe by word of mouth(on the sly).

Tim, Very Impressive indeed. Looks like you will have all the fresh figs you can eat this year and plenty for canning also

Best of luck

Thanks Sal, good to hear from you.

Lookin great Tim

Thanks Cecil.

Can't be spring in TX - don't see any Bluebonnets!

Caneyscud,

We sure enough have them around here! RIGHT NOW!

ah, bluebonnets

those, tx buttercups, and mesquite trees are three things i loved about living in texas.

Tim, as I have seen your set up first hand I can attest to the beauty of your house, yard and garden. If I had such a lot available right next door to me I wouldn't be looking for another place to expand to. Linda and I have to make plans to return during the fig season this year, although you had quite a sampling last year even if it was late in the season.

It's looking great again.
"gene"

I'll take just one, just one Blue Bonnet! Your spring is our summer.

They're saying New England may get a Nor'easter on Thursday!

The winter that will never end..... AAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Figluvah

Now that brings back memories and a tear to my eye!

Hmmm, foggy memory, but, I can see little Caney now - in his new Easter outfit, clutching tight in his little pudgy hand a pink Easter basket filled with that ubiquitous green "grass".  Gleefully skipping through his Grandparent's bluebonnet field, bending down and picking up colorful dyed Easter eggs.

errr.....maybe I should not have blurted that out!

HAHA.........That was a touching short story Caneyscud....Thanks

Blurting out ain't bad, I been known to do it more than a few times, although it has got me in trouble more than a few times......The Bluebonnets are REAlly in bloom around here, to quote my Wife "it is a sight to behold"

Caney, speaking of bluebonnets, I do keep a few in a bed in the front yard. They are not native to this part of coastal Texas.  I included a picture of my little Hollier fig tree, behind the fish tank. I think it'll make a pretty backdrop as it gets more mature As you can see, the yard is not always so neat.

Cecil, that's a beautiful picture of bluebonnets. I wish they would grow that lush naturally here.

Gene, Linda and yourself are welcome anytime, just let us know when.
