Spring storms

What a day!!!! I came to our house in Fla near Tampa for a few days r&r and Whammo a storm hit hard and is still in progress.  Power lines to our house are down, my favorite live oak tree now is in two pieces with one piece crushing our guest bed room roof and a lot of debris inside.  Streets are strewn with debris and a fair amount of damage.  Thank God, no reported injuries or deaths.  I feel jinxed.  Last year in Tenn a tornado touched down, took off our house and garage roofs and destroyed 18 trees, but insurance was good.  I am looking out my  back door and the 2 small fig trees are still standing tall:-)

Sir, hope everyone is safe.  Sorry to hear about your house.  Good luck.

I saw on the noon news the severe weather hitting Florida including tornadoes. I hope all are safe.

TMC, I experienced Hilda in 1964 and Betsy in 1965. I actually walked out into the eye of Betsy. I had never been so frightened before. Since then, when a hurricane comes, I go. Most times I travel to Shreveport La to my daughters. For Gustav a couple of years back, we went to Destin and we were just on the outside of the tornado band that hit the coast. I lost some of my roof to Gustav and two years of fishing. I'm just about over it and ready to fish. Well wishes to all.

I experienced being in the eye of hurricane Betsy too. That was one heck of a hurricane and it was only a category 3. Scarred the heck out of a lot of people. There was wide spread destruction all in this area. Katrina and Gustav damaged my fig trees and took the roofing shingles off of my house.  Hurricanes are really big bad actors that generate lots of tornadoes and a mini tsunami to boot. That tidal surge is what damaged some levees and flooded a large portion of New Orleans.  I would never ever want to go through a category 5.......get the heck out of the path of one of those monsters.

A tornado damaged my son in law's truck yesterday as this same storm system moved through our area. It did bring cooler temperatures with it.

I'm in Melbourne Florida..
We lost a power yesterday for 4 hours..
All day today strong rain, wind and on TV they speaking about tornado..
I hope all this will stop soon..
I'm very worry about my figs..
Soo much rain can't be good..
Even I check them today.. they was Ok.. But I bring inside all figs I start this year..
They got hit with strong rain on Monday.. Rain start around midnight and continue all day..I put plants inside around 9 morning..And I was very worry I will loose all of them, but I think may be 6-7 look not good.. but this is from 70.. So, I just glad I don't lost all of them..
Now I decide to wait with rest of my started cuttings.. They will sit in cups for a some time now.. And again I will need to change a soil..
Yes, all this rain.. hard..

I need a dose of Alfred E.Newman's attitude. It is still raining but the number of tree trimmer estimates is catching up with the rain drops. During my Navy days our ship rode out a hurricane at sea but my 1963 Tempest at the Mayport base got sand blasted and about 6" of sand or something and took me a month to clean it up. Was about 1967. My potted figs in TN are on a covered back porch with nights in the mid 30's and days in the 60's. Makes for an interesting season. Nice day forecast for tomorrow. I'm ready.
