Spring Weather

I could not wait for winter to be over for springs to arrive, now that spring has arrived its been rather lousy, we did have a few days that were in 70s and a few in 80s that have gone period.
Its been cool and rainy and more rain and more rain, metoroligist said just yesterday since March 1st its been the rainiest spring to date. Everyones grass is very tall as no one can get out there to cut it and ground is so saturated.
My large fig plants have been on patio for a good week or so and also getting a very good soaking but look ok just seem a little slow in putting out there leaves as we have not had much sun and warmth as of late.
Small grow light plants have yet to be able to stay outdoors for good yet,  its just to chilly at night and i have to shelter them from the heavy rains not to drown them so i keep them  in area where rain cannot reach them and then bring in at night into garage or house depending on the nite time lows. Its to bad but all plants are not getting much sun as of late. Oh well things will change im sure.
Oh i read that some are fishing , i also like to fish and have a small 14ft boat i trailer to the smaller lakes but here in illinois fishing stinks compared to other states, you guys know whom im talking about.  ; )
I broke the humminbird transducer on back of boat when i banged into it with the snowblower this past winter season and since have bought a new one to replace it , thats was a expensive mistake doogone it.

Martin,

That wet rainy weather has made it to us. I actually welcome it after the weekend and Monday where we were above 90 and the sun was very intense. A few leaves on some of the larger figs were scorched a little. Nothing major but ultimately may lead to a little leaf loss. The cloudy cooler weather for the next week will give them a little rest to recover and strengthen. My plants that were in storage are leafing out nicely and my in-ground trees are covered in nice green buds. The little brebas are now pea-sized and looking good. So, we are on our way finally. I have 10 yards of mulch to put down this weekend so I'm hoping it will stay cool (could do without a wash-out though).

Ciao Martin,  Yes, it is a little rainey and cooler, but it is welcomed right now.  The last week was sooo hot!!!  We had to run  airconditioners for a couple days, it got so hot in the house with the sun.  It was great though, but these rain is very good for all our newly planted plants, watering in real well with the soft rain.  It was about 69 yesturday, supposed to be warmer with a little mix sun and clouds and rain today.  I have had my baby figs outside for a while now, it hasent' dropped below 40 so my rooted cuttings from this year are fine outside.  They are growing very vigorously, wait till you see the Kalamata, I didn't bring it in at all since mid april, it has grown tremendously.  I keep an eagle eye on the weather though, but around here, everyone is saying we are out of the woodwork.  I will send you pictures of my cuttings to your direct email, I still haven't figured to post pictures here, One day.  You sound like my husband with the fishing, we went for a walk up and down the mountains the other day and he said he really wanted to get some fishing in.  Pennsylvania is a great state for fishing. Fishermen that go all in the south and over say its nothing compared to around the west of Pennsylvania.  we have such a huge variety of fish and so tasty.  Yousee everyday the fishermen coming home with their coolers filled.  If ever you want to fish these good waters you make arrangements, we will board you up and your wife if you'd like.  Ciao Ciao,  Maggie

Steve,
thats a lot of mulch to spread!
I m going to order 5 yards of dirt for back of fence on the hill to spread and elsewhere when weather gets better and stops raining.
High today 56 and cloudy matter of fact cloudy for next week grr.
Fig plants are off to slow start this year, as for breba i usually cut most tips the few remaining ones on uncut tips turn dark and fall off cause of weather here each spring.

Dan,
yes i will enjoy reading about the type of fishing in your area and thanks much for sending , i just sealed envelope to mail your way this morning.

Maggie,
thanks for kind offer maybe when im old and grey! Matter of fact im just about there not much grey though as most is lost except on face.
Kids and dogs keep me busy as daughter is in several bands and travels with the school band what seems like every weekend.
Taking Butch the large dog to get his shots at the vet this morning.
I tilled veggie garden once and not all the way just stays wet with off and on rain and cool weather cant plant anything , my large potted figs on patio look for the most part naked with just some small tiny leaves emerging  for a peek , soon though they will bust out with vigor as i expect them to do they had a very long sleep this past winter. My grow light plants went back in garage last night just windy and cool for them but i leave them out at each night a little longer each eve but hard with the fluctuating temps cold , sometimes warmer sometimes real cold , just waiting for more steady temps for them. Good to hear your kalamata fig doing well.
Overall my tree's are probably doing the slowest of the springs they have seen to date , each day and more than once when i let the dogs out i look at them. Romeo the little Yorkie grab one of the tags and gave it a good chewing before i could entice him with a treat to drop it! Least he did not chew the plants that little rascal, he is always into something and needs constant watching when in yard he even stands on hind legs to look into the larger pots but thats all he can do!

hello  all  It has been cool and rainy her in southeast nebraska  zone 5 .  i have been hoping for a warm day so i can hunt for morel mushrooms.
