Start and Finish

That is 134 pots with 10 more to go after the shuffle is over.

I'm a shufflin over here to....LOL

Looking Good Mike,

How do you navigate around them later while giving them a drink!

I use a four foot wand and can reach them all with a little luck. But its only once or twice and then they will go back out in late March or early April.

Mike, I feel your pain. I just put the rest of my pots away for good today.

Years ago did the fall shuffle to try a fig or two.
LOL no no not anymore i just snap any left overs off if there are any.

Martin, I was going to snap them all off too but I have some Col de Dame Noir, Black Madeira, Nero600m and JH Adriatic I just
could bring myself to throwing away. We may have some 60 degree days coming up after this cold snap and if they dont
get ready they will be gone, gone.

lol Mike i know i know in 2012 a Violet Sollies i left on swelled and turned in yard never did get to taste it !

Looks like my garage.  Wife fusses we are going to scratch the car...

Tim

Wow, my little trees are still growing like summer time, the front coming this week might put a stop to that.

You can use bungie cords to bring branches together .

Mike, I see a line on the floor...is that a spouse induced limit :)

LOL @ GregMartin

It could be said that is true but it is actually the maximum distance i could come out with the plants and still have room for my vehicle.

Ha! Too funny, Greg I was thinking the same thing. Either the line the wife had drawn or the car line, either way it kind of works out the same.

Mike, a lot of your trees have very green/healthy leaves on them.  How quickly do they change color and fall off?  Approximately what temperature is your garage at?  Many of mine have green leaves as well and I was thinking I would wait until the leaves are at least yellowing/shriveling.  But maybe this isn't necessary.  They have been through several light freezes (like around 30 degrees).  It is supposed to hit 26 degrees Tuesday night so I think I will begin the process on Monday and possibly finish it.

Mike, man, I haven't even started! But Wednesday night is supposed to be 27 degrees. So, I have to hurry. But I have been prepping my greenhouse, cleaning out my shed and upsize a few trees. Tomorrow, I have to put things in warp speed! The wife is pissed and wants me to downsize, but I won't. My side in the garage is full of whiskey barrels, potting mix, pine bark and over 200 little trees in tubes. I may have to take a day off before Wednesday to start my shuffle.

Cold is definitely coming, supposed to be 39 here Wednesday.

Rewton, my garage is still warm also. It has been in the 60-65 degree range for a week or so but its coming Tuesday night.

See this thread about it.    http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/storing-nondormant-trees-6612897

My gargage is detached,  is it better to have the pots on pallets off the cement?

worry worry

I am kind of new at this but I thought you were supposed to wait for the trees to go dormant before you brought them in.  Most of the trees shown in the picture still have green leaves.  Am I missing something?

Bill, check out the link in post #18 above

Figs have seduced us into taking care of them. Maybe they control us instead of us growing them. They will survive if this relationship keeps up.

Dennis and you fair weather folks sending you a little cooler weather soon

I guess that depends on how much temperature fluctuation you get.  If air temps have significant dips (fluctuations), then being on the concrete floor could help stabilize the temp of the pot a very little bit.  (I know the concrete feels cold, but it could actually act as a heat sink... it's all about the delta T).  But in practical terms, it probably makes little difference.  Being out of cold drying wind is the most important part.  And if you're going to have temps below 32F for very long, then not having the soil be too saturated with water is also important.  If you're keeping them in an unheated garage, then there's little practical difference between on the floor vs a few inches above it on pallets.  Especially if your door closes pretty well against the floor  (i.e. avoiding very low draft).  IMO the heat sink effect of the floor is a benefit, not a detriment (at least for my garage).

Thanks.  I think I will bring some of the younger ones inside now even though they have some leave and let the older ones stay out a little longer till their leaves fall.
