Ordered some dried Turkish Figs from nuts.com which are delicious to me as compared to the dried Black Mission I tried some weeks ago. The seeds from one fig were extracted by rubbing the pulp in a bowl of water. The floating ones and pulp were washed away. Here is the end result of the ones that sank, more than I figured...
Cut a bunch of 2" tall bamboo "starter cups", filled them with a screened soil mix I use for potting the trees I have purchased and put three seeds to each and barely covered with more mix, then misted. The starter cups are sitting on a screen of 1/8" wire mesh that is attached to a cedar wood frame so the bottoms are raised about 3/4" off the container bottom. The rest of the seeds were scattered into another tub, covered and misted. I wonder if seedlings start in the bamboo, will be able to just place the whole thing into a pot once roots are observed coming out the bottom?
I have read probably every topic here on growing from seed and watched some videos. Nothing worthwhile may come of this but it's fun to me doing it.
Thinking of maybe building an insulated grow room out in the garage for the trees I have purchased which are very small and keep them growing through the winter, if my friend from work comes through with the 4' x 8' foam panels he says I can have and I already have grow lights. If so, these will go there if they sprout. If not, they will sit somewhere in the house over winter to give me something to do.
