Staten Island Bomb (fig pics)

I got this one from Pete Cundari. He lives in NY and has a large Belleclaire collection.
He said this one is from Sicily. It looks a lot like my Vasilika Sika.

This was by far my best white fig this year. It's a very large fig with that nice honey/syrup filling up the small void. My wife and I thought it had a hint of a berry taste to it.

Here are some pictures of the fig and leaves if anybody has an idea to what it is.
Oh yeah, this is a breba.

Beautiful looking fig Art thanks for posting. It also looks very similar to Stella/Dalmatie and your taste description also sounds like Stella, great tasting fig.

  Pete

Pete, You could be right. I will have to check on my Stella and compare.

Art, If that's Stella, lucky you (and me)!

Looks a lot like a breba I picked on sunday from an unknown...but alas the leaves don't match. 110 grams btw.

Looking good, Art.
Thanks for sharing.

Art, good looking fig.

Thanks for sharing

Looks great!

Hi Art.
That's a beautiful fig.
I agree with Pete, it looks like my Stella (aka) Cordi.
Vito

Art, I'll add to the agreement in it's similarity to Stella.

Mike in Hanover, VA

The leaves look exactly like an unknown I have. I haven't had any ripe fruit yet, but the unripe fruit are similarly elongated. It was tagged as red honey fig and purchased from a local fruit guru who was just starting to get into figs.

I hope it's the same.

nice fig there

Thanks for all the comments. I do agree that it does look like my Stella. My Stella is about a week away from ripening.
It also looks a lot like my Vasilika Sika, which I think tasted better than Stella last year.

I can't get over how good this fig is. It has that WOW! factor. My wife and I both gave it a 10.
It is similar to my Vasilika Sika and I should be able to do a side-by-side comparison to my Stella tomorrow or the next day. This one had been dripping honey the last couple of days. There was a big puddle on the side of the pot.

Good post of a good looking fig. Thanks Art.
How does it compare to you Vasilika Sika?

Doesn't get any better than 10! If anyone from the DEEP southeast is growing Stella and/or SI Bomb please let me know how it holds up in our weather. Thanks.

JD, It is very similar to my Vasilika Sika. The leaf pattern and the looks of the fig. The taste is similar, but I like the S.I. Bomb better. It has that more intense flavor. I have Stella, V.S. and S.I. bomb growing side by side.
Last year I liked VS better than Stella.
Also the Staten Island bomb is from Sicily.

Lol! No doubt!

JD, Here are the two compared side by side. The Vasilika Sika is on the left and S.I. Bomb on the right.

Funny story: I didn't tell my wife which was which. I wanted to hear which one she liked better. She tried the V.S. I said how do you rate the first fig and she said 10. (It was darn good.)
She then tried the S.I. Bomb and I said how do you rate that one. She said 15.
I agreed that the V.S. was really, really good. But the S.I. bomb is so much richer. My best fig so far.

If you were to look at the trees and didn't know better, you'd think they were the exact same.
Tomorrow I will do a comparison with Stella.

Art thanks for sharing this great information and pictures. It really makes it hard to resist when you put out this sort of comparison.

This one is in my top five. Might be my wife's favorite.

That looks amazing.

Thanks Frank. I'm pretty sure it's the same as Stella and Vasilika Sika w/long finger leaves.
