Staten Island fig fest

Who's going? My wife and I are planning to be there.
Are there any nearby hotels? Where's a good place to eat?

If there's a fig feast in Staten Island, I'm going!

Better find out whose going from the forum. I think last year only a few guys showed up.

I should be there,I lived in SI for most of my life. Kubota there's a few hotels, there's a Hilton about 20 minutes from there. Staten island is only 16 miles long but there's plenty of good restaurant's, especially Italian. What type of food are you looking to eat?

Has a date been announced?  I could not find anything that's current for 2013.

Frank

Paul, Not looking for anything specific. Just as long as it's good.
We do like Italian.

Frank, I believe it is on the same date every year. Sept. 15 at 7:00

Where and when is this shin dig?

kubota1:

Thanks, I didn't know it was the same date each season.  That's good to know.

Frank

I heard that it's the 15th Sept. every year at 7PM.  If I hear more about it I will post it.  My cousin and I are going to go.  There is the Hilton to stay at.  There are many good restaurants.  If you like pizza, there is Goodfella's (not far from the fig fest).  Mayor Guiliani used to go and eat there.  My son and I went and had the vodka pie.  It was good.

I went last year it was good too see other forum members and my wife and I found a great place to eat that would be worth going back to just for that, but we showed up at the start time and they were handing out awards and the place cleared out like 15 minutes after the start time I saw online. I will probably go again this year, but I will go earlier.

Valerie, Thanks for the info. I was hoping we could get some good NY pizza.

Marcus, Hope to see you there.

You're welcome!!  There is nothing like NY Pizza!!!  (except for figs).

I'll be there with my brother and nephew,
Looking forward to see the forum members.

Vito, I will have that plant that I promised you.

Would love to meet up with you fine folks and would bring some plants too.I am about 1 hour away in NJ. I also lived in Staten Island when I was going to college and know it a bit
Coop

Looking forward to see the members.  I will go but plan on arriving at 6 the latest, it gets dark fast that time of year.  Will bring some plants and hopefully lots of figs.

Thank you Art. Are you looking for a particular fig? I may have it.
Vito

Bump...

Less than two weeks away.
I got my hotel booked.

FYI

The primary theme of this "Fig Fest" is the food aspect,
not the growing of figs.

If you are coming to meet up with lots of other serious fig
growers, you will be disappointed.

Organizer of this event is the Food/Dinning reporter for the local paper.
Focus is on eating figs,
not growing them.

Outdoor event, if it rains,
it will be over before it starts,
don't be late.

I live in SI,
went once, it was enough.

If you like pizza
you can do much better than Goodfella's on SI,
which is a step up from average at best.

Salvatore of Soho
Pizzaria Giove
Joe Pats
Pier 76

and others.

top two are close to the fig fest.

:-)

Thanks Hungyjack, I will have to look one of them up.

Try Salvatore,
he has the coal oven.

Sounds good.

Are you going to be there?

No plans to attend this year.

Going to change my recommendation for the Pizza,
go to Pizzeria Giove,
about 10 minutes from the fig fest.

I think you will like it better.
They have awesome specialty pies,
their white specialty pies are world class.
Not cheap, but they use high quality ingredients.
Was on a Bobby Flay throwdown episode, Bobby lost.

Keep your eyes open when you drive around,
you should see a fig tree every minute or so.

Have fun on Fig Island  :-)
