Stella ,old and young comparison, today pixies!

Here are Stella 5 years and Stella second year today.
The older plant is loaded with figs in stagnant stage and the young plant has no figs at this point in time.
That is ,because it is young and make embryos late compared to older tree.
It teaches us to be patient with young plants.
I did pinch both plant the old one for fruits forming and the young one for bush shape formation.

Herman on your stella when does the eye start to darken I have a three year old tree in the ground that just started setting fruits this year. I am not sold on the cultivar yet and have been waiting on fruit to confirm.. The eye on the figs the size of my thumb is still white..

are you going to let young stella produce this year or are you going to pinch the fruit off?

Al:Stella does not have a red eye not even when ripe.
It turns a little pink when ripe but barely.
Inside is dark red,tho.
Young Stella does not have embryos now,but if it form it later than July 15,I will remove them.
Not all cultivars produce fruits in second year,so that is OK.
Stella did produced very well last year, and the year before so I am sold on it.

copy that sounds just like what my tree is doing. Thanks again

Thank you for the pictures Herman.

I have a start from your Stella, and this is a tree I am very excited about.

I really like the look of this tree, and one thing I am coming to appreciate is green skin (birds don't bother much) and good dark interior look and taste.

The Stella is setting good fruits this year.  I can't wait!

Hope you are well my friend.

Best wishes.

John

Hi Gina.  I also like the unique shape of this fig, as seen in your link.

But as I noted above, my favorite part is that the birds don't know there is rich, dark red, tasty fig inside the green skin.

I love dark figs, but I have to put a net over them, or the birds peck them all.

So I am loving the Stella and others with dark rich interior and green exterior.

Best wishes to all.

I have an Adriatic JH that I am looking forward to for the same reason. I admit I prefer the look of the dark figs, but between the birds, bunnies, gophers and ground squirrels I am simply tired of the constant struggle with the wildlife.

Isn't Stella supposed to be close to Adriatic?

They are different in shape, close in Flavor, and totally different leaves.
Of course there could be other cultural differences.

great pictures herman, with fig trees and with most things in life PATIENCE does pay off sooner or later.

Herman,
Would you say Stella has more of a honey flavor or berry flavor?

  Thanks,
   Pete

Is Stella in the Brunswick family?

luke

It has Berry Flavor, and is way superior to Brunswick.
Only the leaves look like Brunswick, but Brunswick is way inferior to Stella.

We have several Stella rooted earlier this year arleady moved up to 1 gallon pots and they are growing very nicely. Very encouraging photos and information Herman, thank you very much. Nice to see what the future has in store for us.

Poor Stella.

First or Second degree?
Was it a crime of passion?

Noss I have a few air layers started if they take you can have one...
