Still No Killing Frost

Tuesday the 24th of November, 46 degrees F at 6:00 AM.  According to a radio report I heard last week this sets a record for the latest freeze-free date in the Tulsa area.  Supposed to be 29 F tomorrow AM, but I will have to see it to believe it.

We had two very light frosts weeks ago, but the grass is still green in the pastures and my in-ground fig trees still have leaves, though those by the house are beginning to go dormant.  Two out by the barn are still in full leaf.

Had another Pakistani fig yesterday. That by the way is a good fig; sweet and with crunchy seeds, good flavor.  I am eager to taste it when it bears in full summer.  These are figs off a first-year-in-ground tree about three feet high.

I just hope we do not get a reall killing freeze before the trees drop their leaves.  High twenties I would welcome, but not teens.

We finally hit a low of 32 degrees on Friday morning, a record for latest first frost. And then on Saturday a record high of 73 degrees. I pushed my potted VdB into the garage two weeks ago. Now I have to worry if it is too warm in the closed garage until the next front moves in next week.
