Hi!
You all ID'd my unknown to be Osborne this spring. The breba taste was sweet and refreshing, but not rich at all.
Recently it's been obvious that several main crop figs are swelling and drooping. I noticed some had bird pecks, so I had to get out the bags. I had a hard time putting the little green bags on them because they hardly fit. These are BIG figs!
After about 4 days in it's bag, the first one dropped into my hand. I should have weighed it, but I was creeped out by the ants on it. HATE ants! I rinsed the fig, sliced it open and found a few more ants! So, I flicked and blew those off and admired the nice juicy fig that was staring at me. Luckily, JD is fishing this week, so I didn't have to share. :-)
Here it is next to a quarter:
And here it is open:
This fig has a very sweet, rich and figgy flavor. It is not nutty or crunchy but it is very juicy and delicious. I didn't like the hardness of the open eye, so for my second half, I cut that eye out (plus I fear ants).
All the figs on the tree are this size when they swell and droop. So is it still Osborn? Osborne? Not sure of spelling.
TIA
