This was bound to happen eventually. Some images that I had posted on the forum (Black Madeira and Figo Preto) have shown up in someone else's ebay listing for an entirely different fig. I know this thanks to a forum member who alerted me.http://www.ebay.com/itm/40-fresh-Abebereira-Fig-Cuttings-Rare-black-Portuguese-variety-Portugal-tree-/151816822643?hash=item2358fcdf73&rmvSB=trueHere is my original post:http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/black-madeira-and-figo-preto-comparison-7063585?pid=1288741997Be forewarned about this seller. You can do what you want but I would NOT bid on anything being offered by a seller who steals images off the internet (of a different fig, no less) and passes them off has his/her own. It's a pain but but I guess I will need to watermark images from now on.
Wow so blatant. I was watching those too as I thought I had read somewhere about them lol.
And he only wants 15 dollars per cutting.
OK, the images have been swapped out now. If the new images are legitimate I'm not sure why they weren't used to begin with? Lesson learned - watermark.
Sad. :( Can you contact ebay? Or do they not care? I didn't even think about pics we take and post being stolen and used for someone else's monetary gain. I don't think anything I've ever posted has been nicked, but I will be watermarking from now one just in case. Thanks for the heads up on that "seller". It wouldn't surprise me if his "Cannabis seed" is actually lupine (flower) seeds or even okra.
Rewton. I have,to say that is some really impressive plants you gave us,a link to. NICE WORK. dont let this person bother you to much. And thanks for giving us a heads up. The pics already been changed. Richie
Hi Steve, That really sucks! Well, that did show how fantastic your pictures of Black Madeira and Figo Preto are. :-))I agree that watermark is the way to go.
Steve, there are a few listings and I think some of your photos are still being used.
Wayne, yeah I see that now and contacted him/her yet again. I see someone else posed a question on one of this person's auctions about the images as well and got a nonsensical answer back. It's probably not worth spending a huge amount of mental energy on this but I do want people in the community who may be in the market for legit fig varieties to know about this and to take it into account when they decide what auctions to bid on.
Make your watermark big, otherwise... http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/grd/5196334847.html
James, good advice for any of us. I have used an app called Gimp that can be used to put watermarks on but I have yet to make a watermark with it that I really like. Does anyone have other suggestions for an easy to use app for this? Unless I can find (or set up) and really easy and convenient way to put watermarks on images I will probably post fewer images than before. That's the unfortunate side effect of image theft.
I don't mind someone using my Images, it's just when they use them to deceive someone, like in this case!
This is what I fear about buying on e-bay. Can you guys please help me locate BM from a legitimateseller? I really thought I would have better luck on here....Terrance
