Strange weather confusing figs

Hi everyone it's Kausik from Adelaide, Australia. The weather in Adelaide and rest of Australia was quite warm in the last months. We had a two weeks spell of nice sunshine after a brief cold patch, which I thinks confused most of the trees. It felt like we already in spring, whereas winter is just starting. Fig trees are still green and couple of my Black mission and Black Ischia started to grow new figs . I am not so sure what to do? I put a clear plastic cover with plenty of airspace on top them, creating a greenhouse effect to keep them going through winter. Do you guys think it is a good idea? Each of those trees are in their second year and have at least 10 figs on them. Hate to loose them. Thanks in advance for your inputs. Cheers.

Hi @Kausik , nice looking plants!  It is always fun to hear from folks in "the other" hemisphere - makes winter pass more quickly!

Unfortunately a plastic bag does very little at night.  A plastic bag in the day and brought in at night if in containers, Or Christmas tree lights under the plastic turned on at night if in the ground might work.  With your highs in the 60s (F) and lows in the 40s this could easily get you some ripe figs.  Once the figs are ripe I'd keep the plastic on a while to let the figs build up some energy for dormancy, then uncover them and let them rest.  But you could probably keep them producing all year if you wanted to.
