Strawberry Verte

Hi Folks,

Photo's taken today,a little back story. This plant came as a small whip,it was the least
vigorous of the 5 I received in early 2011.I planted this (and the others)after carrying them
in 15 gallon pots through Sept/Oct 2011.The planned "fig row" being occupied by tomato
at the time.It was not staked and by early 2012 it had keeled over badly and needed
some intervention. At the time a lot was posted about the "step over" form,so I deceided
to move it out of the fig row to it's current location. The rooted end was buried deep
and the growing tip was buried w/a couple of cinder blocks on top to make sure it
stayed in place. All branching was removed from the now horizontal trunk except
the most vertical branches.

Kind of hard to see what's going on down there, basically the main trunk arched.

Beyond form, this one has been kind of strange. The growth coming off the horizontal trunk has been
stable but less than vigorous. The root suckers on the other hand have been wildly aggressive growths. The left side root sucker was air layered away earlier this year.

These 3 were air layered from the "arch"

The right side looks like it has 3 potential air layers for 2015.Kind of strange, every time I've walked
by this one I'd shake my head and wonder why it was such a "weak" growth.Only when putting this
post together did I remember where the 2 plants I gave away and these 4 came from.

Cheers,

Paul

Wow, what huge air layers! What size pots did you use?

Tyro.

I see you have been a member for awhile but not many Posts. Please post and share more all your plants have great form, and great work you have going.

Hi Waynea,

<Wow, what huge air layers! What size pots did you use?>

5 gallon for the largest,1-2 gallon for the rest.

Hi Strudeldog,

I've refrained from posting here until I felt I had something to offer.
Now that I've figured out this photo business there's a distinct
possibility I could make a pest of myself.<G>

Cheers,

Paul

Paul I have been extremely bored lately..however you have given me something to look forward to. Please post more pictures lol

Paul, love all the pictures, keep us envious!

In my limited experience, Verte is among the faves!  But there are contenders.  Sorry Martin, seems like the green with the red insides are best!  Just saying...

Truly amazing!

Strong work Paul,
Thanks for sharing :)

I love Strawberry Verte, Thanks for sharing the posts of your trees. All the trees look very healthy.

When I was on a business trip in San Deigo last year, I stopped by Jon's place and picked up one.  He said, Strawberry Verte has awesome tasting figs.  I have a couple of Vertes from Petal from the Past.  They rant and rave about theirs too.  It's going to be a VERTE year!  Get it?

I agree Desert Dance, green and red, definitely the best.

Yes Dennis, I will go along with you on the VERTE year.

PAUL KEEP PESTERING US!

and yes it IS CHILLY IN PHILLY.
