Strawberry Verte - totally awesome

I have several Green Ischia, JH Adriatics and Strawberry fig trees. And NO- Strawberry is not the same as Green Ischia.....wanted to say that before anyone ask! A few years a go, JV sold me one of his favorites- Strawberry Verte. Over the past week, my tree's figs started to drop and get soft. This morning I picked this one.
On a scale of 1 to 10, it's an 11! This fig will make you pass out with just one bite!

Looks fantastic! Glad it's so delicious!
Now of course I want to get this fig tree.

I have SV cutting in a one gallon container that is doing well. I am very excited about your review.

My sentiments exactly. : )

With that kind of endorsement from you, it's surely one to look for.

Now is just a matter of finding out where can i get one...

Hey Dennis, I am jealous! My SV is several  weeks from having a ripe one! Yes, I do agree with you about the other Figs and NO they are not the same. My SV is planted right beside my Green Ischia  in the
ground and they are completely different,  I also love GI.  Keep posting them beautiful Figs Dennis! : )

Dennis your sv is ripened to perfection. My sv and a green ischia i got a few months back have different leaves. Will post pics of,each. The dark ruby red is classic sv. Green ischia is a brighter red from the research i have done.

Looks awesome Dennis! Do Any of the afore-mentioned figs have an edge in the size category? Thanks!

Thanks, Alan.

I have a Sucre Vert for several years now, is an aggressive grower, but no fruit. Do you have picture if the leaves?

Ok so you say Green Ischia, and JH Adriatics are different? How? Just curious, how are those figs btw? What about Battaglia Green? Is Battaglia Green really a line of Strawberry Verte?

Very nice Dennis!  I can almost taste that fig from here!

We love our SV, too.  Definitely a favorite for everyone in the family and definitely one of the top 5 in our yard.

Would love to see good leaf and fruit pics of Strawberry Verte, Verte, Green Ischia, Adriatic JH and Battaglia Green side by side....

Leaf pattern sometimes doesn't mean a whole lot until a tree is much older. As for size in concerned, all of these,
Strawberry Verte
Green Ischia
JH Adriatic
Strawberry
Spicewood

Strawberry is larger and ripens a little latedr. The others are around the same size. SV does taste like a scoop of strawberry jam.

These pics are of my 2 STrawberry Vertes.

Here are leaf pics of my Spicewood. It's on full sun and in a 7g pot. This is the first year it's loaded with this many figs! I need to fertilize more.

Here is leaf pattern of one of my big Strawberry fig trees. Two years ago, it was in a piss poor pot getting very little water. I soaked the root ball and repotted it in a half whiskey barrel and placed it on my covered deck. Today, it's loaded with figs and doing lovely!
This fig is an Louisiana heirloom called Strawberry.

I agree SV is a superb tasting fig. I've tested the shriveled up ones, which is how I like them, at 45 brix. Love the flavor of both pulp and skin. It's a healthy strong growing fig that sets lots of fruit.

I've got about 40 SV plants started but am budding some over to other varieties.

I got 2 little ones going with a couple baby figs on them.  Looks like I got something to look forward to! Thanks Dennis. :)

It appears that Sucre Vert might be related to your Strawberry Verte.
Mine is four years old and has not fruited yet. Notice the two patterns of leaves on the same tree.

Sas. Pinch your tree. Four leaves or more, pinch the tip. Sucrette at UC Davis is excellent, but the figs are small. I too have one but it's in a small pot.

My Spicewood use to only give me 3 figs a year. This year it's loaded. I pinched it and gave it a good dose of fertilizer.

Green Ishia and Strawberry Verte are different. I believe Battataglia green is named after a woman who had a superior selection of Strawberry Verte.

I planted a 187-25 today in the ground. I think it's like some of the other Strawberry Figs. From what I understand it is outstanding also. Some say it grows slow for them but mine grows like gangbusters! : )

Hi Frank, I too has 187-25.  It will fruit for you but very late.  When I installed my second greenhouse, I chopped my tree down..... so I thought!  It was too close to my GH footer.  But I left the root ball intact.   The tree is now growing again.  It's in a tough spot growing with wild blackberries which I chop down every year. I just got tired of fighting the thorns and just left the tree alone over the years.  Now the darn blackberries are coming up under my GH!   I'm about ready to throw a stick of dynamite on that thing!

UCD 187-25 is very hardy.  You might have to winterize it this winter but it won't die in our climate.  I gave cuttings away over the years.  I just gave mine a dose of fertilizer and just curious how it will do without much hands-on care.  It's another excellent tasting green fig with a beet red pulp.

There are 2 other figs that I posted here years ago that are out of this work amazing!  Paradiso and Strawberry.  Strawberry is the one with the honey ooze.  Paradiso is the long one with brown spots.

Thank you Dennis for the details!

Sas,

I also have a small Sucre Vert fig tree.

Sucre Vert4_arvore_do_Marc.JPG

It would be nice if has something to do with Strawberry Verte, but i think that the fig pulp is no way similar to the fig Dennis has showed us in the first post.

A French forum user that has Sucre Vert from Baud has posted a photo of the fig last year and compared it to Sucrette.
It seems Sucre Vert has a more amber pulp, not red:
