Struggling cuttings

Is it normal for roots to start out nice and white and then turn brown like this? Also the two cuttings started leafing out but now the leaves are dying. Another member suggested it was too humid so I cut a hole in the bag. It still seems to be hanging by a thread! It's in coir. It's damp but not soaked. The branches themselves are doing great as you can see, but the leaves not so much! Any ideas? Should I just let them ride or do I need to intervene somehow ?

Thanks,
Paul

The roots look good. The leaves falling happens to me sometimes too. Usually just as they come out of the humidity bins. Probably not enough humidity is the cause. Keeping them in the humidity chaber longer seems to help a bit. Also acclimating them gradually will help. Open the bin or baggie, whatever your using, a little at a time. If you in a baggie take it off for an hr one day. Then the 2 hrs the next and so on. If the leaves do die they will grow back.

Thanks Jeff.  I bought these two cuttings on ebay so I really don't want them to die.  Thanks for your help.

The same failure happened to my cuttings last spring, 15 cuttings from 2 sources.  I ended up with 2 plants, im sure it was lo humidity as I used plastic bags to contain the moisture.   This year I used plastic bins, 10 cuttings were from last fall from the internet, 30 were  from a 30 year old tree that survived our maryland winters unprotected.  but the above ground part didnt survive last years polar vortex.    All were Refrigerated  untill end of feb , of the 10 , 8 rooted and grew  of the 30 that were cut at the end of Dec. (before this years polar vortex) from new growth that summer, maybe 2 will survive, roots and leaf survival were the failures, all 40 were  rooted in the same bins.    My conclusion is that rooting and surviving depends in some part on the cutting, as when cut, age of the wood,  possibly variety, and maybe more.  I also bought 2 rooted cuttings off the internet also both survived and all are now 3' high.
Final answer, keep trying.
