Stupid Gino's

Hi All,

I'm sorry you have to read this, but I find if I publicly disparage, embarrass and/or threaten my trees in public, they start behaving.

I left one fig to ripen on my small Gino's tree in Denver.  About a month ago, while it was still green and hard, it started to droop.  Within a week it was fully dropped.  About 10 days ago it started changing colors.  It has been fully colored for a couple of days but it is still hard.  Compare that with Black Bethlehem and an unknown from Tony which have full color and are super soft, but no droop.

Wow,...... if it doesn't produce good fruit, chop it down, says the Bible...LOL    The Question is the Droop...???   I would think drooping means ripe. If no droop but soft, means ripe also.....I think they are all indicators of ripeness.

Seems like something went wrong.  I picked my last Gino's of the season today.  One of my best figs!

My in ground Ginos were large and very tasty this year!

Very happy with it.  give it another year

I had 2 figs do that.  Well, they changed color but never swelled or drooped.  And another swelled, changed color and hardened.  I hope disparaging your fig makes it ripen!  LOL.

Well, it looks like it is working. I checked yesterday, and the fig had softened significantly. More so today. I think it might be ready tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if it behaves the same next year.

Well it ripened.  I let it hang on for a few extra days.  The taste was pretty good, but not great.  It's been cool here lately.  It definitely could have used more heat.  I've still got a few figs on some other trees.  I'm not sure they will ripen at this point.

Yeah, I have been eating the figs from my outside figs about 3-4 days earlier than I would normally. It seems that they don't really get too much better by waiting this time of year, and you have to wait twice as long(compared to a 6 weeks ago) for them to get that really ripe stage.
