Success!!!

So very excited today.  I have been hoping that the Pinache figs will ripen for me and I finally had one ripen in CANADA!!!

It's really a very nice fig....sweet and smooth.  No crunchy seeds...skin was quite thin and complimented the fig.  It was like I was enjoying a gourmet fig...very nice!

I'm not sure how many others have been able to get them to ripen in Canada, but I'd love to hear from you if you have.

Attached are the photos.

Happy figging!!!

Looks great

They all look very good. Well done !

and here I was thinking of giving up on mine Ralph!  Good job

Congrats! Panache is a great fig!

I have been taking care of my panache for the past six years. Never got a single ripe fig over these years. This has been a warm year and there are still a few weeks before danger of frost in Ottawa. If there is no ripening this year I doubt there ever will be ripening any other year.
I thought I will keep it as a decorative piece near the house entrance but no one notices it as special coloured fig. I guess that curiosity is enjoyed only by the fig hobbyists.

I think you just got your PHD in figology .
Quite the achievement .

Bona jobba Raffaele!
Hope you get many more ripe figs from this interesting fig!

Raffael, Pino, John,
I believe I have this variety.
Ex neighbour accross the strret had it for 11 years (inground) and never had  ripe fuit.
I grow it in pot.
Had three delicious brebas and 4 main crop fruits.
My best tasting fig.
Not a hint of a figgy taste but rather refreshing fruity flavour hint of a citrus fruit.

I do have photographs of both leaves and fruit.
Healthy deep green leaves, very thick and raspy. Unique!
Fruit unblemished yellow to gold color.

Hi Luzzu,

If your growing them in a pot, you can extend the growing season by breaking dormancy early in spring and extending it in the fall.  You can make a little mini greenhouse over it.

My uncle has a shed with plexiglass roof and its like 10 degrees warmer in there.

Congrats for having ripe panache in yor weather-true patience.

This Solar ray device - looks like a cool idea to paste cd's on a wall against the pots. FXWIRGUF1U9XUMF.MEDIUM.jpg

Thank you everyone.  I'm pretty psyched actually.  I had another Panache on Dec 5th!  I thought that was pretty incredible.  I do have to mention though that the tree is in my shed which I keep at 40-50 degrees F at all times.  The skin is quite hard but the inside is bright red and tastes and feels like a sweet jam.

This morning I enjoyed a couple of Coll de Blanc which was pretty kewl.  They too had a tough skin but like the Panache, the center was ripe, red and sweet!  Can't ask for much more than that....it is December 8th after all!!

I wish everyone the same success that I've enjoyed and looking toward hopefully many more in the New Year!

Merry Christmas everyone...and a Happy Figging New Year!!!

Luzzu

yes very kewl. I have never tasted one.  Mine is still in someone else's orchard waiting to be a cutting that finds its way to AZ then...then...then...Enjoy...

Very nice, Luzzu! And, a Merry Christmas & blessed New 2016 to you!

Congratulations, Luzzu! ....thanks to your posts, I was intrigued and read up on the Panache. It has now been added to my wish list :)

I have panache figs grown from seeds but I was told lately that figs grown from seeds will bare fruit but will not ripe :( I'm sooo heart broken .

Teyfigfan: i didnt know this!!! Wow, sorry to hear.
