SUCCESS!! First fig ever!

Folks, little less than one year ago today I cut a branch from my grandfather's fig tree and thanks to everyone's help, I have been able to enjoy my first fig!

(not to mention that the cutting went from 7 inches to 7.5 feet tall in a year's time.)  See rooted cutting below from this winter.

I really want to thank all the forum members for their help, I knew nothing about figs last August - never would have happened if it wasn't for Figs 4 Fun and a little (or a lot) of luck.

~very nice happy for you,i'm in the same boat,my C-H is ripening her first fig right now i am so happy,i bought tree on ebay but since have propagated through the help of knowlegable members, and have even been sent trees from members thanks everyone ~

Congrats! Hopefully this is the first of a long love affair with the fruit of the gods!

Congratulations on a job well done!  How did it taste?

Thanks everyone.

@rcantor:  It tasted awesome! I was actually surprised because many have said that the first year figs don't taste as good, maybe even a little bitter. But this one was surprisingly sweet, although I'm sure I'm a little biased after all that work I put into them.

For those that are curious, I basically followed RichinNJ's "Twig's to Fig's" method, with some modifications:

I used a heating pad not just when they were rooting in cups, but even when in pots but still indoors.  Basically, heating pad from November through May - wanted to ensure strong root growth.

Once outside, I started fertilizing with Espoma Garden-tone and Bonemeal every two weeks.  Watered every 2 or 3 days in spring, and then everyday once it got hot out.

Lastly, they face the southern sky, so all that sun helped I'm sure.  And once they had lots of leaves, that shaded the pots.

Hope this helps someone get the same or better results!

Oh yes. You are hooked! Great to know you preserved your grandfather's tree.

Congrats!!! Enjoy the kick.

~do you know the name of this tree ??

I believe it to be Chicago Hardy based on what others have said.

Is that still the consensus now that there are pics of the fig?
