I know I can air layer them and have more but I am quickly reaching critical mass. I know that I can share the love which I will do when I have time to dedicate to that.

BUT

for right now what do most of you do with suckers?

Chop them off....there will be more to follow.

i left two suckers on VdB. now they are taller than the main trunk. they will make either nice air layer next year for a new trees or cut down for cuttings. it's up to you. most will suggest cutting them down so the main trunk will develop better.

Pete, other than the two suckers, is your VdB multi trunked?  How tall is it? Would you post a pic?

it's not tall at all. it's in 10 gal pot and it's about 3-4 ft tall. the main trunk is about 2" now. it put out about 100 figs this year and it's in 3rd year. tastes great.
