Suckers On My Figs????

I dont think I have ever seen this before. Suckers coming out where the figs usually are. Does anyone else have this? I usually cut the suckers off my tomato's, but what do you all think about this. This is one of my older 5 times replanted in different places Dominick Italian Fig Tree. Lots of figs though
Thanks

Looks like normal branching to me. Are you pinching? If so maybe you are getting branching your not used to.

I usually just get shoots that come up from the main stalks, which are many as I prune for a bush on most of these.I also cut back quite a bit for the winter here in NJ. Is that what you mean by pinching?
All advise welcome.

coop, if you look at the node where leaf comes out, you'll notice two bumps. one of 'em has chance of being a fig, and other one new branch. i don't know what determines which will develope, and which will just sit there. some of my trees will push both fig and a new branch at the same time.

Pete,
I have only gotten figs from that node in the past, and hundreds of them. This is not a complaint mind you and have been growing figs a very long time. Just never got branching like that before

Hello

I have a similar thing happening to my fig tree!

What should be done with these suckers?

Please share your experience..

Thanks..

Sorry for my understanding. Isn't sucker it has roots ?. Or just regular branching we call it sucker too ?...

Hi,
Coop, suckers come from the roots at the base of the trunk - they will delay the fig ripening .
This is normal branching ... for a tree - in my mind - with too much fertilizer.
It will happen for young trees as well but if I understand you well, the tree has been producing for some time .
I had this year that branching on a young tree that did not produce figs .
I would let them grow to expect more figs next year :)
