In the US the Sucrette is sourced from UCD and it's not the same as Bauds Sucrette which is a bit more reddish.

I get brebas from VDB, Petite Negri, Lots of Desert King, Morena, Marinese, Beyaz Orak, Blanche to name a few. They will all ripen if they are sheltered and protected from wind chill in spring. So ideally you should corner them away from northern wind and if late frost is predicted then simply put a fleece over them or put a sprinkler on from let's say 4 am to 8 am on a timer (half hour break will do). Some people also put couple of fan outside side by side on a timer but I never tried that. For main crop ones I give them a head start in the greenhouse and picks all the brebas off of them. Rossa Rotonda and Ronde de Bordeaux is a main crop variety and will ripen outdoors with no head start. This year it seems a bit late tho. And Desert king don't need much protection and it always puts out a ton of brebas.

Wow 85 litres I'd get a hernia just thinking about moving that much.

Use the Biobizz light mix. Not heavy at all but you would need some help moving pots like that for sure. Not worth getting ill mate.

Thanks for the Biobizz pointer Vinny. That's something I will definitely be looking into.

Mine is Baud's Sucrette from a European source, grown in the ground in full sun.

Vinny,

The software on this site doesn't allow me to post pics. It always says the file size it too big,
so I never post pictures. But from the pics in the thread you posted, it looks like I have Sucre
Verte. It's still a very good fig, although a bit on the sweet side. I was assured that I was getting
Baud's Sucrette, so I'm a bit put out. It was to be sourced from Baud, so I don't know what happened.
But thanks for pointing this out.

Rayrose, there's a 1mb. file limit when attaching image files, but what I do is trim the image so that it is just under the limit. I do this using the built-in google photos app. If you don't run on android I'm sure you will have similar software available.

Hi Vinny

I have a sucrette Baud and I'm new to figs how can you tell when it's ripe? One of mine has swelled and is lighter in color than the rest on the tree, it also feels softer, should I wait longer?

Hello,

Yes they turn light with sugar spots all over (not the prettiest) when ripe and hang like any other Fig. It's very sweet and one of Bauds favourite. All the best.

Hi Vinny,
Very nice and  attractive fig
Am sure you giving it yr best  care in every respect -- Baud mentions 40/45 gr and sort of light strawberry pulp
Your fruit seems to go beyond that
cheers
Francisco

Vinny,

This post was very helpful, by following the link I found goldeneye's photos of sucre vert. This finally enabled me to identify a fig bought as verte, as the the aforementioned. Thanks, it's nice to be able to put a name to an unknown.

Do you ever get honey (fig syroup) coming out of the eye?

Hello,
I did notice that in my climate the pulp gets darker on many varities than usual. This is a pic posted by a friend of Baud and he lives in southern France. The smaller one is Sucrette.

Cheers,

Hey John,

I believe we live fairly close, so we can work something out if you would like to try this variety. It needs a Greenhouse head start but it's one of them type that keeps the quality regardless of the location it's grown and I highly recommend it. Will PM you when they go fully dormant.

Cheers,

Champion from UK. Congratulations. Another good variant is Nefiach

Hi Vinny that's a kind thought, spooky really as I was going to PM you myself

Cheers

Hey Vinny,
I tried to PM you but no go. You are right that we are within easy travel range, about 25 miles. Thanks for the sucrette suggestion, I definitely want that.
I am also looking to refresh my collection with about three other good ones.
I hope you won't think me presumptuous, but before seeing what I can get from the online nurseries I was wondering if you would have any that we could come to an arrangement about.
PM me if interested.
Cheers

Hi John,

Will certainly pm you when they go dormant. I'm working away from home right now. Will be in touch. Take care

Vinny

Cheers Vinny, thanks for your quick response.
