Sugar to kill RKN???

I have seen a few vague references to using "sugar" to treat (kill) RKN, but have been unable to gleam any specifics on what/how to do it.

Sans,
I plan on going down to see James Robbins this fall, I am going to ask JR how he uses sugar, because I have found the little ? in two of my fig trees.
I'll tell Ya more about it in Nov.
"Got a serious jones for some deep dish pizza?" HEHE

The trip to Chicago tonight got canceled, my co-pilot bailed out on me. Now worth driving 18 hours round trip ALONE. if I had someone to share the driving, I would do it.... there is always next weekend, though.

Cecil, deep dish pizza?
Ahh some of the best around this neck of the woods, i even been known to make my own along with some italian dishes, meatballs are pretty good, but every italian claims theirs is inferior especially the woman but men make great cooks as well. I think im seeing purple on my figs as im looking to hard but there getting there.

I have been reading about shrimp shell meal and crab shell meal reducing RKN. There is a substance called chitin in the crab and shrimp shells that predatory nematodes like to eat. Adding the extra chitin to the soil increases the population of the predatory nematodes. When the predators run out of crab shell they attack the RK nematodes because they have concentrations of chitin in their bodies.

I have LOTS of Chitin.. Winemakers know it as "Chitosan"

I even read that is is soon to be the latest craze in diet pills!

I bought some Hi-Yield Nema-A-Cide, and used it on two RKN infected in-ground fig trees.   That was about 3 weeks ago, both trees are putting on new leafs.

They might have did it without the nema-A-cide, but it is kinda funny, they hadn't put on new leafs since Spring time.

Edit ....... Nema-A-Cide contains shrimp and crab shell + urea.

we will see?
Cecil

Just for laughs ...

If you got a shrimp or crab to pee on your tree, would that work as well as Nema-A-Cide?

Sorry, couldn't help myself after reading the ingredients you listed. LOL.

I have heard somewhere that once RKN 'comes' onto your property,
the only sure way to get rid of them is to 'nuke' the whole place!
Sooo, BE vigilant and examine every (potted) fig you buy, trade or
get as a freebie, etc.
George (NJ).

I see a pattern here!
Steve from N.J. sez piss on Tx.

George from N.J. sez nuke Tx.

Fellows, that George from Tx is leaving the big White House soon, I know, I know, I voted for the pecker wood both times (what was I thinking?)

So its going to be better soon........yeah, right. :-)

Cecil

I voted for him too - I guess worse things than RKN come for TX. Of course, NJ has nothing against TX ... just glad its way over there in the SW ;)

HAHAHA

Gotta love it......Tx, me that is, Just remember Steve, you are talking to a well traveled man, in the states anyhow, now do ya wanna hear about the Vince Lombardi service Plaza first or The Jersey City Trk. Stop first?

WOW.

Edit.... on second thought, if I told Ya what I know about those two places Jon would kick me off of the forum.

Cecil

Cecil,
you guys over there in Texas dont have the good Pizza like we do in chicago and some of the north eastern states nor the great italian beef sandwhiches. : )~

That's right Martin,

Spell Mississippi.........Folks, that one is between me & Martin

Haha
That was funny HUH Martin?

Indeed it was !!!

>>>George from N.J. sez nuke Tx.
I never said that!  My point was neither politcal, nor was I referring to any state.
All I wanted to say is that prevention is better than cure (and  in this case, there is
almost no cure). So all of you that do not have RKN on your property, do inspect
ALL your newly acquired potted figs...

I agree with George. It is easier AND cheaper to avoid these critters. I've been lucky so far in large part due to the education I have received from the experienced ones like George, Herman, Jon, Henry, etc sharing on these boards.

George, it was just a JOKE, no more, no less, for Pete's sakes!!!!!!!!!!!.

Your point about RKN was well taken.

Cecil

I know that it was a joke, and I was not offended. I just wanted to clear things up...
