Suggestion for S Oregon..?

I want to take advantage of the $7 fig offer from Greenfin. This is a gift for my daughter in So.Oregon.I have selected several blacks to send her..

Violette de Bordeaux

Ronde de Bordeaux

Marseilles blk vs

Malta Black

but I'm thinking that is a lot of Blacks.I only want to send her 4,and thought maybe someone could suggest something else? Not sure which black to drop either. Her climate is probably between zones 7 and 8.Summers are long and can reach triple digits for 30+ days.Winters can drop to below zero..not that often, but she can provide shelter so they won't freeze.

I was giving the Osborn Prolific the eye,but evidently, there are several different versions.Greenfin lists his as Osborn Prolific EL.Some have suggested that the Osborn doesn't do that well in the extreme heat?

Then there is Conadria..but there are probably lots of varieties that would fit the bill.

I could sure use a recommendation,so that I could get my order placed.

Thanks..

Ted

Is this SE or SW Oregon?

SW.

Medford actually.

Ok. I'm thinking maybe a JH Adriatic for a green fig.

What Black to drop?Anyone know which would be the lesser of the 4? (if there is such a thing).

Which to cut?

Hard to say but Violette De Bordeaux tends to be an easy to acquire fig so if you didn't get it now you shouldn't have any trouble getting it from a retail nursery.

I live in Milton Freewater OR.  Medford is about 5-10 degrees hotter in the summer.  I have Hardy Chicago here and it handles the heat here just fine.

I am not familiar with Oregon weather (have in laws there so I know it is beautiful).
Given it is zone 7 or 8 you will still need to protect in ground figs for winters.
My suggestion is to give your daughter a little more diversity.
The figs you chose are all fine but they are all the same size small-medium black figs.
There are some very nice large black figs that should also do well there (Sal's Corleone, Siclian Black JR, Yugoslavian Black...)
For white you may want to consider Atreano or Lattarula super easy to grow and great producers.
Don't over think it is impossible to go wrong your daughter will end up loving them.

I live in Beaverton SW Oregon but now in Texas during winter  .
My fig trees grow well in ground in SW Oregon.
Eventhough $7 a cutting for sale by greenfig is an excellent deal, but you have to wait until July to receive a rooted cutting . There is one nursery in Portland Oregon that sells several varieties 1 G size just for $5.00 . I was there in August and saw a 5-year-old tree Stella (in ground) loaded with beautiful fruits . Their Stella 1 G come from that tree . I bought 3 G size Vern Brown Turkey for $20 and several other varieties 2 G for $10

They do have  Violette de Bordeaux  Ronde de Bordeaux in 1 G ($5), 2 G ($10), 3 G ($20) . In Spring they have 15 G for $75
I remember that they told me they have 24 varieties available for sale

I will look for their address in Portland and will provide it to you

Figglet:

Thanks for the advice.I have a real thing for the VDB,don't know why really, but if i was only going to get her 1,then the VDB would be it...but what you suggest does make sense.

Berryman;Again, thanks for the suggestion.Hardy Chicago is actually one I was considering.I don't know why I was leaning towards the Adriatic...I must have read a review that made it sound great.

pino:Thanks for responding.I was looking at the list and thinking the very same thing...really lopsided.I'm going to give your suggestions a serious look thru.Part of my problem,is that all the different names confuse me.(Sals Corleone/Sals Gene  Sicilian Black/Sicilian JR). I also appreciate the suggestion of the Atreano. That one caught my eye as well, but sadly, it is sold out. That is why I was looking at the Adriatic.I'll have a look at the Lattarula (that's the same as Lattarula I am guessing).Thank you so much for the advice.I appreciate it very much.

Lolita: Thanks for the information on the nursery in Portland.Maybe Portland Nursery,or Drakes.Portland Nursery is the place I always went first when searching for plants.Great place. Here is the problem. The kids are in Medford. It is a really rare occasion when they go to Portland for anything.I have been in the Philippines for 8yrs,and in that time, the kids have been to Portland one time...for a funeral. That is why greenfins sale is so attractive. Not only can we get the plants delivered..and for a very fair price, but it is also being done by a fellow forum member.I have confidence that what he is selling is legit, and I always try to support fellow forum members when given the opportunity.I would prefer (given the chance) to buy the plants a little earlier in the year so that they could get that extra growth in,but sometimes sacrifices have to be made.

Thanks to every one of you that responded. You have been very helpful.

The nursery is One Green World and they were just sold.  The old owners sold me an Atreano that produces dark figs.  Even if the new owners are better if they start with mislabeled stock there's nothing they can do about it.  JH Adriatic is a great fig but late.  I'd get her a Desert King so she has an early green.  Panache is another spectacular fig, taste-wise and they all taste different.  Then I'd add 2 darks for a full 5 variety box.  MBVS is early and good and Col de Dame Noir or Gris are late and good.  Hardy Chicago is great.  In fact you can't go wrong with any of them.

Just my 2 cents   :)

Thanks for that rcantor.I hadn't been paying close attention I guess, and totally forgot to consider early and/or late varieties. Thanks for the rec of CDDG as well.

Is the Hardy Chicago an early fig?
