My Sultane showing some main crop figs. Click to enlarge thumbnail.
Thanks for the pic Martin. Based on your experience with different fig varieties when would you expect those to ripen in your area? take care, Pete
Looking good. I like this variety.
MartinAre there male and female gender in fig plants. This one based on the main crop picture, looks to be more like Sultan than Sultane.
PHD this year mid sept. as it matures they will be earlier here in my climate as i have experienced with my other plants the first few seasons. A good sign for me is that its limbs harden faster i notice. Akram i did not check if it was wearing a dress or pants. :) Kidding aside this thread should help what you seek about female and male figs. http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Fig-advise-3587063?highlight=male+female+figs Also i have seen it listed as Sultan/Sultan/ Sultana and at some sites they were syn for each other. Jons site has Sultan with Sultane and ? mark as syn and below that Sultane with Sultan as syn and no ? mark. Baud , Adirano, Raintree sells whats called Sultane. Years ago Paradise nursery had one but i forget if they had Sultans or Sultana or Sultan as that was long ago.
MartinI was just kidding because in the picture you posted it does show a young male characteristics near the bottom of the picture.
I recently obtained a Syrian variety called Sultani which is a totally different fig than Sultane. Keep us posted on your Sultane Martin.
