Another fig that I had to pick to early because of the rain moving in. It is a fairly large fig at 1.21 oz or 34.3 gr. Definitely needs more time on the tree and there are a good many more so we should get abetter taste test in a couple more days. More towards the melon than berry and not figgy or jammy. Lots of potential here and about a 7.
Look good Mike. Looking forward to hearing more about the flavor when the others get ripe. I've been considering this one.
Mike,Nice and juicy fig .With all those threats of rain, at this fig ripening season, if I lived there, I would have heart attacks every other day !!Francisco
I would be covering all my pots and filling the garage and under the eaves with plants.
LOL Francisco, its an on going battle against the elements.
mike, that fig looks good. do you have pix of the leaf?
Pete, I added leaf pics at top
mike, thanks. the fig looks very similar to Kathleen's Black, but leaf is different. just wondering if it's similar fig :)
Pete, I should be able to give a comparison in the next couple of weeks.
This is the first really ripe Sultane without rain. It is another really good fig. Just enough sweetness, with a raspberry flavor and jammy with no crunch. This is an 8.5 and moving up.
Mike your picture 3 shows the unripe fig with mosaic spotting on it same as in link below. If your curious about what that is on your figs refer to this link it take a while to load.Page 4 picture B shows it on the fig fruit itself.http://journals.tubitak.gov.tr/agriculture/issues/tar-09-33-5/tar-33-5-6-0807-20.pdf
Martin, thanks for the link and info. Doesnt seem to affect the taste of the fruit or does it?
Wow 8.5, I'm glad to hear it as I have been disappointed with the 2 I have gotten so far but mine is a very young tree and I did pick them too soon because of rain too. I will have to wait till next year for some more though. At least now I am expecting better.thanksgoss
