Summer and Winter

I know its been on the news about the hot spell much of country is going through.
We are getting it here as well.

I dont want to rush the season for ripe figs its hard but i can wait my turn and look at the pictures of your figs that are getting ripe now.

Till then i gaze at my tree's many times with coffee in hand in morning hours , water them and sit back on patio and enjoy there beauty and watch the dogs bark and sometimes startle the folks walking down the sidewalk behind my backyard or doing there daily jogging.

Once after supper i saw a teenager busy talking on his cell when Butch walked in a stalking way to fence and teen boy did not notice busy talking on his cell phone.
I swear i thought teen could have wet his pants when he dropped his phone when ole Butch let loose his temper.
Wish i had captured that on video !

Anyways
As seaon marches on and my figs start to ripen before i know it the season has ended for my trees and its all downhill as i watch the leaves slowly turn there autumn color soon to fall down to the ground.

Pictures in my area of what is to come hopefully this season and what hopefully will be at a mininum later on.

Figs from 2008
Snow from 2009 & 2011

Yes it is hot lately Martin. But I sure don't want to rush that cold stuff either. I do however, sometimes wish I could just open a brief window to it on one of these 100 degree days.

It would be real nice to get off the mower, walk over to some special window, open it & stick my head into that cold winter air. I look forward to stepping outside & smelling the cold fresh air. I just don't look forward to it lasting so long :-/ .

Sounds like both you and Butch are having your fun at someone else's expense -LOL. I could just imagine that kid swearing under his breathe after that little wake up call Ha!

Saxonfig
All you need is a walk-in fridge (or freezer) to do that.

Martin,
Cherish those morning moments with the coffee and figs! Time to dream and plot and plan and soak all the goodness in!
I just dragged a chair out to my fig 'orchard,' where I'm going to have a second cup of Joe, and contemplate how I went from having 8 or 9 potted trees this year, to having roughly 2 dozen!

Martin,

Here are a couple of pix on my son Anthony. He's making the best of the situation.

Hey Ott,

I had thought of that. In fact we have one where I work & yes I have walked in there many times just to cool off. Feels great on a hot day like we've been having.

Rafed,

I'm sure he was having a great time and I know times are tough, but don't ya think you could at least get that poor boy a kiddie pool ;-) !?

Bill,

He has a kiddie pool and a slippy slide.
But kids are kids. LOL

BTW, He was born on Fathers Day.
Greatest gift ever.

Rafed,

I knew you'd understand that I was just kidding. I have little doubt that my 6yr old would be doing something similar. It looks like cheap fun really. Just fill it up & let 'em slpash.
Just don't turn your back or he could end up on his his in there (not a good thought).

Children are indeed a precious gift. I try to keep this in mind when they are driving me nuts!

I know what you mean about watching them.

The pot is intended to be used for the larger figs. Just haven't got around to drill some holes in it. Looks like that's the first thing I will do when I go home.

It's 9 p.m. and still 97F.  Forget winter, I'd settle for not breaking a sweat walking from the front door to the car.

I second that James. We are really having a hot one here in W KY this year.

I continue to be suprised by how much different our weather can be here compared to most of the rest of KY. We can be having a drought while there's a downpour 2 hrs east of us. Very often storms will form to the west of us then the storm wil part, go around us, & then re-form to the east. Fortuntely we got some rain yesterday. My plants really appreciated it.

I was also looking up the first & last frost dates for KY earlier. I was suprised when I realized that our season can be as much as 30 days longer (or more) in Murray KY than in Somerset KY for example. I have actually seen a greater span than that considering that I've seen a last spring frost date as early as the 4th or 5th of April.

Martin,

I brought rain directly from Atlanta to Chicago while travelling up on Thursday, and it stayed with me until Sunday, along with some nice, cooler temps.

I hope you enjoyed it, and sorry that the entire city got flooded with 6" in an hour at 1am on Friday morning ;)

Wish I would have had time to meet up, but we had a full schedule that got thrown out of whack with the crummy weather.

Jason stay out of town this winter please we dont need another blizzard like last season.   ; )

Martin, you'll never catch me dead anywhere north of the mason-dixon line in the winter if I have my way in this lifetime ;)

I did enjoy Chicago, though!

I asked for it and I'm getting it.  It looks like we're getting a cold front on Friday and Saturday...

No rain for us in the forecast until Aug 4. With temps in the high to mid 90's+ until then.

I hope the figs like it like this! I guess as long as I give them plenty to drink they'll be OK.

Geez James with that kind of heat you can cook breakfest in a frying pan out on the cement !
Thats some heat your getting in your area.
