Finally got my summer setup done. I am using soaker hoses with timer. Seems like it will work for times that I am away. Hopefully my early season shuffling in and out will reward me. The purple brebas are petite negra and the green are nonnies green. Does anyone know another name for that. I never see it listed. I will have 50 varieties when my new 5 arrive. I am going to have to build a shed this summer so I can clear space in my garage for winter storage.

I have a Nonnie's Green that I got from Gene down in Houma Louisiana.  He got it from a lady in Ohio (through GardenWeb) but had no other information about it.  I got my first figs after 3 yrs.  Very large and a decent fig.  if you find out anything else please copy me.

Should be effective.  One issue I see is that you are going to be soaking the ground as much as the fig trees themselves.  See below for my setup which uses drip emitters instead of soaker hose.  I have 1/2 gallon per hour drip emitters running for 3 minutes every 2 or 3 hours.  Would actually like to set it up so that it doesn't drip at night but haven't gotten around to that yet.

It also looks like must have sprayed herbicide to kill the grass where your pots are.  This is OK for now but eventually you'll get weeds, etc there.  Or at best just dirt.  Actually might end up being muck with all the excess water from the soaker hoses.  I'd suggest you put a couple inches of mulch down. 

The technique I use is to just lay down cardboard boxes and then put soil or mulch on top.  The cardboard kills whatever is below it and the mulch prevents or reduces seeds from sprouting through.

Agree with Rob. Wish there was some way to catch the water between the pots. I hand water using a 5 gallon bucket...ugh!

only the top heavy trees are buried 1/2 way. I am going to try duct taping the hose in between pots to conserve water. I dont know if it will hold. Also if the hose is elevated between pots, the water tends to run back along the hose into the pot. I will only use this method when I am away like this weekend. I will use the cardboard/mulch method. Thanks!

I'm with Rob on using drip irrigation.  Will save a lot of water.  I could never find a soaker hose that was consistent or reliable.  I like MisterLandscaper adjustable drip/spray stakes.

I agree with the above, switch to drip irrigation and save yourself a bunch of headaches.

Also, bury the rest of your pots at least part way.  It will keep those black pots a bit cooler as well as help provide additional moisture from below if needed.  It will also prevent the figs from falling over during storms.  I learned this the hard way my first year and lost multiple nearly ripe figs due to falls.
