Summer's greatest haul-2014 fig crop Pt.2

Had to pick these last nite in steady rain, not picking them would have led to mushy mess.

Clockwise from 12 noon:
3 Figo Preto; Smith; 3 Marseilles Black VS; 2 Battaglia; Brooklyn White, Paradiso Morle; 4 white figs in center are Italian Unknown.

Nice

And which one was your favorite???  jennifer.

Ok Jen the best fig of 2014 was Smith, although I am still hoping one of my Col de Damas ripens.

Beautiful plate full of figs.
Flavor comparisons ?

Maybe I should make a more comprehensive assessment here: Smith was the best, easily. Negronne proved to be quite tasty, consistent and reliable, and deserves honorable mentions. The Pretos are coming in later this year, and are not as good as last year's. Brooklyn White was quite bland-but a first year tree. White Genoa has been reliable, abundant, typically late and decent. Battaglias have been late and are not as jammy as I expected. I prefer the Adriatic JH (not pictured, but had my last one today). There are still a couple of other varieties I am waiting to ripen but overall a mixture of surprises and disappointments. Next year will bring more of both no doubt!

Thanks for the comparison.
That is high praise for Smith with such good competition .

Lucky you, that's a nice crop.

Rafael, all of them look so nice, I have most of the darks , all are great, and I have Battaglia which hope is one of the best tasting lights.

Looks very good. Thanks for sharing all the pictures and feedback with us.

I think I have 3 green ones outside. My monster is focusing on growing branches for next year. You go Girl!

Thank You Rafaelissimmo, I am catching up, little by little.....The Preto brought tears to my eyes...we have a special bond...LOL

Just finally saw your thread, thanks for sharing!  Some great figs there!

Hey Armando glad you like Preto, it's so nice I am going to add a second tree this winter. Harvey I envy your Panache figs and your pollinated figs. Maybe next year my container Panache will bear fruit. There's always next year.

Nice.

Herahell grow a Smith, it's a great Southern fig.

Huge honey droplet, F. Preto.
