Sun wilting new growth...suggestions?

Hello,

Here's a quick rundown. I have 6 figs that were up potted to 5 gal pots about 3 months ago. They were in full sun with no new growth for a long time. I posted that issue and got some great advice on fertilizing. I saw the start of new growth at which point I left town for vacation for 5 days. When I came back I was please to see an explosion of growth. Huge new leaves, branches and a lot of them. Great news.

Now what I noticed the last couple days is all these new leaves go limp and curl up in the gentle morning sun. I moved them to shade immediately and they recover. Temp in the morning is only around 70 degrees. Before the new growth came these plants would be in full sun all day at 80 degrees with no issues.

I'm about to leave on vacation for another 8 days and will mot be around to move them. Should I just leave them in their spot? Is the leaf curling normal? Caught me off guard.

Pics below of curling as well as the plant in its "recovered" state.

It's not atypical for the leaves to curl a bit in the mid-day sun and then recover in the evening.  I'm not seeing major damage on the leaves.  It seems that they should be fine in moderate sun while you are away for the 8 days as long as they get watered regularly.

Chome, I remember your post from earlier. Glad to see your plants doing so well. It looks like they've
recently doubled in size, I see lots of new, green stem.
These plants will drink a lot now, and a lot of water means the fertilizer will get flushed out easily.
I agree with Rewton.
Maybe a little mulch to hold in some moisture while you're away.
Looks like you'll be looking for 10 gallon pots next year, like me.
Congratulations!

Chrome, will they be watered regularly while you are away? If so, moderate sun should be  good. If not, I would put them
in filtered sun to shade. They look to good for them to look like potato chips from to much sun.

chome360,
The plants are looking great.
I'm in agreement with the previous posted comments.
Attached is a post I made to another topic, in reference to pot color and increased soil temperatures on the sun facing side. If your roots have made it to the perimeter of the black containers, they may also be heating up in direct sunlight, if the pots are not shaded (from first hand experience, this causes the leaves to curl also).

Fertilizer stress.

Thanks for all the great input guys!  I thought it might be normal.

Ruuting, yes, they have practically doubled.  I was shocked.  When I left the buds were just breaking.  Gone 5 days and I had 6 to 8 inches of new growth each with new big leaves everywhere.  Roots coming out of the bottom holes as well.

Rewton, I was thinking the same.  I haven't left them in the sun after seeing that to see for sure, but I suspect while I was gone and wasn't here to move them, they were probably wilting during the day and recovering at night like you said.

I've been watering about once a week.  I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but even after 5 or 6 days the pots still feel very heavy with water.
