Super New Newbie

Hi Everyone,

I have been obsessively reading this forum for a month or so, so it seems that introductions are in order. First of all, I love figs. Second of all, I now have a place where I can plant some.

Last month, I bought a whole bunch of cuttings over EBAY. I have bags of Hardy Chicago, Altreano, Sal's Gs, Gino's Black, Brooklyn White, and another white one whose name escapes me.

I am in Philadelphia, which I believe is zone 7. Thanks to all for the FAQs on all topics FIG. I am looking forward to my first year in the Kingdom of Figdom!

Welcome aboard!  Good peeps here.

ChillyNPhilly, welcome to the forum and thanks for your intro. Sounds like you have enough cuttings for a good start.
Best of luck in your rooting process.

welcome chillyNphilly alot of wonderful people here with loads of knowladge.

Sounds like your off to a good start, i wanted to add a few more to my small collection but here i am still adding. its an addiction. but a fun one.

Good luck with your rooting and watch out for those gnats they can kill a baby fig tree in no time.

welcome,have fun with your cutting.

Welcome to the forum. ; )

Chilly....Warm up!  Welcome to the forum.

Fig season is just around the corner.  May I offer a suggestion?  If you haven't done so already, buy a larger, fruit-bearing, fig tree, and do your thing with the new cuttings. These cuttings will take some years to produce.  If you have a fig "jones"...a larger tree is just what you need.  Pick figs this year, while you wait for the cuttings to play catch-up.  You will not be sorry.

Also, give a good look at the trees growing in the Philly area, and in your neighborhood.   Try to get some cutting wood from the owners.  Sometimes the local figs can be better than the figs with the famous names, and they may prove to be perfectly hardy in your area.

Good luck, and have fun.  Check in often.

Frank

Hi Chilly, welcome to the forum. Are you new to Philly or a native? I've lived here my whole life. There are indeed a lot of fig trees being grown in Philly, but depending on where you look you will either find pretty commoon stuff or a few interesting varieties from all over the native fig world.

Welcome CNP this is a great bunch of people you will enjoy it here.

Hi Frank. I am always looking for suggestions. That sounds like a really good idea. Also, there are a LOT of figs in this neighborhood. I will definitely be checking them out as time goes on. Thanks and nice to meet you.
