super phosphate

i have a recipe for early figs containing superphosphate0-20-0.  all i can find in my area is triple phosphate0-45-0. my question is can i still use the triple 0-45-0, but only half as much for what the recipe calls for being that it is double strength?  thanks much, gary

i tried P heavy blooming formula fertilizer before. i can't say if it actually helped with pushing figs. but i know pinching worked.

Can you share how you plan to use the superphosphate? And why. I am interested in anything that might push fig production.

yes ,i found the container instructions on http://www.figtrees.net  by joe morle' who lives in boston mass.

Pon's book shows that they are using tripple super phosphate in the fig orchard where he lives and other parts of spain, one good thing about it is that it should contain a good ammount of calcium as well.

No wonder bone meal works so well.

here's a interesting read about it.

To answer your initial question, yes, you can use triple phosphate at about half the suggested rate.

I don't know if I've even seen double phosphate.

NPK as we all know.. N is for vegetative growth, P is for flowers but fruits usually comes from what's in the flower, it's also for fruits, and K is for general health and roots. when my KB refused to put on the figs, i looked around and get the fertilizer with largest P number. that didn't do much. what made the difference was pinching.

edit: KB is back to putting on the branches and ignoring figs. i gave her top and root pruning.. i guess she feels that she need to get her vegetative growth going again. more pinching will follow.

this is just copy n paste

N – nitrogen: promotes the growth of leaves and vegetation
P – phosphorus: promotes root and shoot growth
K – potassium: regulation of water and nutrient movement in plant cells, and should promote flowering, fruiting and general hardiness

Doug

well.. maybe i give wrong fert to KB. LOL

LOL

carry on

Doug

only goes to prove, pinching works. good thing i made that mistake. learned something.
