Super tri phosphate(0-45-0) vs. Tri phosphate(0-22-0)

Sup ev1, Im using Super triple phosphate(0-45-0), and Garden lime by epsom, with bone meal for my figs. The ratio is at 1-1-1, and im using a 6 oz cup of the mix per each 10 gal pot sprinkled evenly over the top of my bark/mulch..  Trees are around 3/4 to 1 inch in diameter and 52 to 60 inches tall.  My question is that ive seen alot using triple phosphate (0-22-0), but not alot on using the super tri phosphate???  And does my amount being used see high?  I'm using this to see if growth starts back up again after trees have fruited.  Ive pinched off all my fruit and side branches to maintain the main branch growth. but they seem to have slow to non growth.  This ratio worked great in the spring with the tri phosphate giving good growth and figs

Thanks,
First year fig grower.

I'm no fert expert but I have been playing with my ratios for a couple years. Last year I only fertilized once, but this year I fertilized twice and I'm very happy with the results. I used some tripple phosphate I'm my mix this spring but not on my second mix. Basically I'm using 10-10-10 and lime 50/50. If you are using 2oz of tripple phosphate that sounds fine to me. My question is about your timing. I fertilized at bud break and in early July. By September I want to stop vegitive growth and let the trees go into dormancy soon. Phosphorus has more to do with root development than top growth, but I would not encourage any fertilizer application in September.

Ya im moving them into a green house till novemberish, im hoping to get a lil more tree growth. But did not relize i used super tri phosphate till afterwards. Thxs for the advice, i can really use it being a first year fig grower.

Do a soil test before adding extra phosphorus. It can be toxic to the micro organisms that live in the soil. Phosphorus builds up in the soil unlike Nitrogen and Potassium.
Excessive Phosphorus can also interfere with Calcium absorption.
I have used 0 middle number fertilizers for many years as have many others with great results.

Nitrogen is the primary nutrient that promotes growth not P. Apply N in spring. I agree it's getting late to apply much fertilizer now.

The heavy applications of P are largely a waste of money and resources.

Hi,
As already written, in N-P-K , N is for the vegetative growth and that is what you should have been using to serve your purposes.
P and K are more for roots and fruits.
Now it is getting late to fertilize. If you keep them growing in the greenhouse during the winter with additional lights ... Why not ? Might be expensive... though ...
But you can keep that in a corner of your head, and use it next season.
I always advise people to use 10-10-10 ( or X-X-X) fertilizers ... The trees will use what they need.
The total quantity you give in a season is what makes the difference ( along with a proper watering plan ).
More fertilizer (X-X-X) means more growth - unless you give the tree so much fertilizer that you burn it.
A hand full, every month or every 2 weeks , is what I use on in ground trees when I want to push them. Half of that in a big pot. A quarter of the quantity in a small pot.
Good luck.
