Suspected eBay scammers with F4F ties

Someone asked above about trusted sellers.
Here is a thread about them (I am not endorsing anyone, just putting these in this thread):

http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/one-more-timelast-time-good-ebay-sellersmembers-5436565?&trail=50

In November, I made a purchase from Radyslava on ebay for "Rare fig tree BARADA-SYRIAN variety- 3 cuttings"

What arrived were TWO wispy, less-than-pencil-thin cuttings (see pic), adequately wrapped in a Saran-type film, but otherwise just swimming around in a padded envelope. Still, I would have tried to use them if Radyslava had actually been careful enough to send THREE, as advertised. I wrote back about the wispiness and the fact they had sent only two cuttings, and asked for a refund. Radyslava then offered a $10 partial refund for the $19 I had paid. When I said no, Radyslava did refund once the USPS return label code was entered into the system

So, the seller exhibited both carelessness and greed. Good enough reasons right there not to transact with such a person

Very good to know via this thread, even if after the fact for me. Glad this thread was kept open

By the way, the refund came back attributed to:

Radyslava Gulenok

Esteban those cuttings do not look bad. Did they have a picture of them in their ebay auction? If so, I think the seller was in the right to offer you only a partial refund for the one they forgot.

Yeah, thicker cuttings aren't always better; I've had success with cuttings that weren't much bigger in height and width than two q-tips stuck together and cuttings as thick as broom handles that just outright would not work - all from the same batch of cuttings from the same tree.

Either way, your rooting success depends so much more on the health and cleanliness of the propagation material rather than the size of the branch. Just as long as your technique is good and you have an adequate amount of nodes on the cutting (three are plenty), you should be fine.

Still, sorry to hear about your experience, Esteban.

Agreed, it's okay to offer a partial refund, but my original post-transaction communication with the seller specified I needed NO FEWER THAN three cuttings. Offering a partial refund under that circumstance isn't really responsive. Here was the pic for the original listing, which didn't resemble what was ultimately shipped in any event

I have, unfortunately, bought from peony77 and radyslava. The types sent look similar and are the few cuttings I have that have not started. They are also smaller cuttings. I went through my records to associate them. Are these completely unreliable? Kind of sucks but i'll get it back. Screwed on Vasilka Sika, Brooklyn White, Red Lebanese and Col de Dame Gris, if this is right. I probably have too many plants anyway. Probably not worth the time or space to grow them out, I have access to enough unknown figs. What do you think?

Haha Randy lives in a apartment acording to the invoice. Try to get your refund ASAP from these jokers.

Very nice work. Hate that people like this are making it tougher for the rest of us.

Thanks Harvey for keeping us figgers informed and being scammed

Thank you Harvey!  I apparently got duped by this guy 77peony on Jolly Tiger and Ice Crystal fig cuttings.  I don't believe I left feedback, so maybe I can still get back at him as small as it might be...

How long ago was the purchase?  Just report the seller to eBay.

I bought from 77peony & Radsylvia back in Sept not knowing any better until I found this forum. Not sure if i got anything worth any value. But its been a long time now....

Thanks god you saved me.. I was just about to buy the cuttings from ebay. When searching for the types of fig I found this thread..
Had to read more and find trusted seller for fig cutting..
Btw I am newbie (^^,)

Welcome, Electrome and, glad you didnt waste your money!

eBay is loaded with some questionable listings right now. An example is the White Madeira, Harvey is the only trusted listing in my opinion. But selling fake cuttings is not just the buyers problem. Example: I have calculated about 33+ WM cuttings that have been or will be sold by the end of this week from eBay listings, guess what the buyers will be doing next year or so, that's right, distribution of fake varieties that they feel is the real deal, now there will be at least 3 different WM circulating our communities, only one is the real deal. That's how this practice is so discouraging and unethical. Make sure you know the source before you buy or you may be the next buyer who will be trading, gifting, or selling fake varieties in the future. Neither seller has responded to my questions or have not responded to my satisfaction.

This is an interesting thread, newbies would benefit to read the entire thread.

Thank you for the information, the more I read the post on our forum the more I learn of what to buy and what not.. Just want to thank all the members that have been given me advice and educating me about figs..
BIG THANK YOU.

Esteban, you withheld the address but it is shown clearly on your packing slip. If you were worried about giving it out you might want to blur it.

Thank you for the warning.

The recent F4F member abcd has made some interesting posts, appearing to be a newbie fig collector, offering to buy cuttings from others.  In the original post, abcd indicates they have had trouble rooting cuttings and would like to buy more cuttings to keep experimenting.  See http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=7219709 Also, quite interestingly, claiming to have imported Greek fig cuttings released which were released by USDA contrary to very clear regulations that prohibit this.  See http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=7228699

I and others have sold significant quantities of cuttings to abcd, or Alex Gulenok, of River Edge, NJ.  Specifically, I sold Alex 25 cuttings of Panache and 25 cuttings of UCR 184-15 and he received them last Wednesday (January 7th).  I and others are 99% certain that Alex sells under the eBay ID of 2014.gulen (partial name match, same city).

Alex also just recently posted on F4F asking for a source of starter Jolly Tiger plants.  See http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=7234410

The eBay 2014.gulen account was created in October 2014 and has a history of selling 9 varieties of figs in the past month and currently has 21 auctions listed with 9 varieties in addition to those showing up in feedback history of being sold previously. An auction for 184-15 was also active yesterday but apparently someone already purchased those cuttings.  Current listings include Jolly Tiger which is particularly interesting as Alex was just looking for starter plants four days ago and now has cuttings being offered.  See http://www.ebay.com/itm/251789211493 for the current Jolly Tiger listing.  I strongly suspect the striped fig cuttings shown are the Panache cuttings I shipped to Alex last week.

I suspect Alex also uses the eBay account svet_vasyl-2008 which also has a listing for Jolly Tiger with many of the same photos being used.  There was another auction in the Buy It Now format that apparently got sold already.  See http://www.ebay.com/itm/321640705172 for the current listing for suckers.

I and others have suspicions of connections with other eBay accounts but evidence in incomplete.  Maybe Alex (abcd) would like to provide the details.

If you've been the buyer of cuttings from suspicious sellers in the northeast, please send me a PM with details.

I have saved PDF copies of the threads linked above in case they are deleted by abcd.

EDIT- See posts where I have made significant updates at:

http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1285806763&postcount=109

I suggest avoiding any activity with the following eBay users:

2014.gulen
atskor10 (formerly atskor8) *
korina-2009 *
korina77-2008 *
svet_vasyl-2008 *

* It's been confirmed that these eBay users use the same PayPal account.  See post #109 linked above.

Edit 1/17: It appears that eBay user 77peony of Moscow, PA is probably also part of this group.

Also, if anyone has a desire to read a cached copy of abcd's thread before some posts were deleted, it can temporarily be found at http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:b6ep9rzRrXsJ:www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post%3Fid%3D7229696%26goto%3Dnextnewest+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Edit 1/18: It appears with 99% certainty that radyslava is another eBay account being used by abcd (Alex Gulenok).

Edit 4/28:  In an effort to edude detection, these scammers continue to change their IDs.  Also, another related account was identified.  As of now, the list of eBay accounts used by this group consist of the following:
200rarefigtrees
77peony
korina-2009
korina77-2008
vasyl_svet
vasyus4
growgr.55
radyslava

Dausername1 and kingelii are also part of this scammers list

Re. ''refund''' for Esteban...? If this is exactly as you wrote...down I don't see a Problem. !! May be you should first think before writing these s-d things. Your were offered satisfaction, then you were refunded..... what is your problem?  Were you promised an agreed upon size ? Do you know that some Fig trees' variety branches are real thin ? Don't suck out a problem from your fingers...

If there was no picture with the auction, both of those cuttings could have been cut in half and you would have 4. Instead he sent 2. Kind of the same thing. The circumference of the cuttings are completely fine. They are actually better than the green cuttings from the auction picture. That being said, I don't believe for a second they are true to variety knowing the seller. Go ahead and try to grow them if you want but I'd have a big question mark on the variety.

Just want to add a quick note. Just because someone posts with generic pictures of cuttings that does not mean the auction is fake. Established respectable members sometimes sell like this.

Completely agree. Many trusted sellers put up a generic picture because they always distribute quality cuttings and people know it. It's just easier. Your reputation is everything.

Jon would be a prime example! I trust his cuttings 100% though. Looking forward to getting them in the next few days, hopefully today!
