Hi, Found this variety on a very helpful list of closed, solid and honey sealed figs posted by a forum member. Did not see it listed in the forum's list of varieties. Does it have another name and does anyone have experience growing this variety?

Actually much of Slovenia is somewhat warmer than Austria, and winters not as bad. It is farther south, and on the South side of the Alps, though the eastern and northern parts would be more like Austria. Have visited family there.

Sounds like a desirable variety to grow in ground for our area. Cold hardy, rain resistant, likes hot summers, decent hang time if its still good when over ripe, and with plenty of flavor... Am putting it on my wish list for sure.

Alan - the area of Styria in Slovenia IS more inland and likely more like Austria climate-wise. The part of Slovenia I visited was the western half, from the capital Ljubljana south to almost Croatia and west to Trieste Italy, and was rather Mediterranean in climate and culture. Beautiful place!!

To be 100% correct German (which is spoken in Austria), it has to be "Süßer Georg" for Sweet George.

Marianna, it truly is one of those superb varieties that's not talked about much. Marius's photos speaks volumes. It's very sweet. Another one I had to save from the raccoons. But well worth fighting for!

Milehighgirl, hopefully Sweet George will fruit for me and a couple other members in CO this year. I can't wait to see how it does here. I have high hopes.

Denis, since raccoons are already a problem along with deer and a juvenile bear, I see more electric fences in my future. Thanks for the heads up.
